What is your opinion on our local Australian industry?
I would have no idea how many Australian films get distributed overseas, and whether or not anybody cares. I know stuff like Crocodile Dundee & Wolf Creek have been big, but apart from that i am seriously interested in how people overseas receive our movies. Perhaps it is the cultural cringe but i can't envision anybody overseas watching something locally made over here fanatically, particularly the comedy films.
np - He Died With A Felafel In His Hand, this movie is incredible. :chug:

I don't see too many foreign films but I saw this Australian flick last year called The Proposition with Guy Pearce that was pretty badass.

Yes, yes you do. He also, along with Warren Ellis, did the soundtrack which is great. It's pretty brutal but it's good.

Chopper is one of my favourite films. The Castle is funny as hell. He died with a felafal in his hand is great too.
There aren't a lot of great aussie films, but when they are good, they're brilliant.

Mad Max is freakin' awesome.

I don't think non-Australians will appreciate The Castle.

Yeah, the Castle is really Aussie humour at its best. British people will get it though, as we have more British humour then American.
Edit: Maurel's Wedding is actually rather funny. As is Prisilla Queen of the desert.

Crocodile Dundee is classic, Wolf Creek is one of the worst movies of all time.
I haven't seen any other movies from the land of Aus.

I wanna watch Jindabyne and Brick, both supposed to be pretty good.
Tell you what IS good though - Little Fish, with Cate Blanchett. She has got to be my favorite actress ever, never gives a weak performance.

Very, very good film.
The Boys is also one to mention, it's really good. (with David Wenham, probably now best known as Faramir in LOTR). Bra Boys looks really good as well i want to see that as well (narrated by Russell Crowe!)
I really found the early Russell Crowe interviews on the Romper Stomper DVD amusing where he talks about how the message of the film is not to act like an idiot in public :smash:
i watched some movie with the guy who played the kicker in that movie the Replacements with Keanu Reeves and it was about a guy who tied a bunch of balloons to a lawn chair and floated away and banged some hot sheriff chick from another town
it was alright

Max Max was great, and I love earler Peter Weir stuff, like Gallipoli.
And Errol Flynn is one of my fav actors, although I heard that he identified more with his Irish heritage than his Aussie nationality.

Take-Away is silly but fun.
Kakoda is alright.
Gallipoli with Mel Gibson is probably still the best Australian film ever made.

Two Hands would be a good movie for a non-aussie, as would Somersault which kinda depresses me every time i watch it. :(

Sam Neill as well. It's a bit of a joke with the Australian film industry that our biggest exports tend not to actually have been born here.

Yes yes, she's gorgeous.
I still need to see Mulholland Dr. all the way through.
And Eric Bana's good too, he and Daniel Craig were great in Munich.
