View Full Version : Will Ferrell needs to stop acting; confirm/deny

I hate this guy.

I don't think he's ever been in a good movie. He just seems to go around thinking that the louder he is, the more obnoxious he is, etc., the better his films are. He sucks. He's like a really bad version of John Belushi without the sense of self-awareness.

And the most annoying thing is people keep giving this guy roles. There's something wrong when in between 2004 and 2007 he makes Anchorman (I admit this was ok, but only because of Steve Carell and Paul Rudd), Kicking and Screaming, Talladega Nights, Blades Of Glory, etc., and people still pour in to see it.

I'm not some freak movie snob who only watches Frederico Fellini. I love a good comedy now and then, like The Big Lebowski, Caddyshack, Office Space, etc. But he plays the same character over and over and just panders to the lowest common denominator.

Any thoughts?

Anchorman was a good movie.

I think he can be pretty funny at times, aside from the fact he has one character he plays in everything he's involved in. But my god is he overused. I read somewhere that he and Ben Stiller are in something like 90% of movies ever released worldwide. True story.

He needs to stop doing broad, slapstick comedies and realize that black dramadies are his thing. His best movie (and one of the best films of 2006) was Stranger than Fiction.

Did you see this, EMH?

EightMilesHigh
07-11-2007, 11:21 PM
No but it's on my to see list because of the high levels of Maggie Gyllenhaal.

That about sums him up for me. I think he's really funny, but I prefer to take him for what he's worth. By no means a "diverse" actor but he's good at what he does.

sort of, but you got the formula messed up...Niche sports were only in the last 2... so it's easy to make that comparison....in fact this formula only works for the last 2 movies...tallagdaga nights and blades of glory? (**** i can't remember the name)

MrConeman

He's alright. Anchorman and Old School were almost comedic genius, he probably won't ever make another movie as good, everything since has been kind of good but lacking.

He's a pretty average actor, and it's true, he does act the same way every single time.

Jim Carey is where it's at.

Well, niche sport only has to be adapted slightly, then you've got niche television spot, niche fashion job, always with the niche.

There are lots of actors who play the same exact role in every movie, what's the big deal?

Stranger than Fiction...wasn't that the one where the book was supposedly so poetically beautiful because he got killed at the end but as far as I could tell the book and prose sucked?

Gnarmageddon

you must be uh young there because christmas story is our generation too

christmas classics are few and far between, we don't need one even every 20 years... we always have the same three (it's a wonderful life, charlie brown christmas, christmas story) and that's the way it's going to be forever and yes elf sucks.

You're confusing bad acting with bad rolls. People give Will Ferrell parts where he's supposed to be loud and obnoxious. Watch "Stanger Than Fiction", he's not at all obnoxious thur.

Kif
07-12-2007, 11:15 AM
I don't mind him in doses, but when they release the same comedy film every few months, that's when it starts to wear me out.

"Let's do a movie about some people playing dodgeball!"
"Let's do the same movie, but about racing!"
"Let's do those movies combined, but it's about ice skating!"

He's an okay actor but for some reason he only decides to act in shitty movies. So I say yes, even though I voted for the latter because Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothin ta **** wit.

With stuff like Anchorman, it would have made an okay 5 minute SNL skit, but you can't base an entire movie off of one character making the same jokes.
