So... E3 huh? Microsoft's press conference is tonight, Nintendo & Sony's are early tomorrow morning and the "show" is from Wednesday to Friday. There's going to be a lot of stuff there and I'm wondering what games you're looking forward to/hoping to see at E3 this year.
I'm looking to see more of (in alphabetical order):
Assassin's Creed
BioShock
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Heavenly Sword
Soul Calibur IV
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008
Let the discussion... Commence!

they ruined Metroid 3, so i guess thats about it

what's soul calibur comin out for?

360...
and ONLINE!!!!
metroid 3 was ruined by them not including an online multiplayer

Sould Calibur IV's coming to PS3 & 360. The Wii's getting some adventure game thingy called Soul Calibur: Legends or something to that effect. :p
Edit: Kurrpt's knowledge of the English language ftw!

but yea, its a friggin knockoff that shouldn't even be called Soul Caliber tbh

i have never played an online game and i would like to
but with a franchise like metroid i dont see how excluding that is ruining it
did you play the others
Kurrpt
07-10-2007, 11:53 AM
yea
problem with that is I beat the first one in 10 hours in 2 sittings. I played the sh!t out of the DS game, and LOVED the online component
considering how short all the metroid games 1p campaigns are, I can't justify the expense with such little replay

Nintendo has said they won't have anything Brawl there.
http://gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/0102D2E1-E0EC-41E8-B232-90F32E6DD641.htm
This makes the whole show null and void to me.

If they are holding back to show SSBB at TGS, that's a bit of a backward step for Nintendo, considering how much support they're getting from the American gaming public.
Mister_Che
07-10-2007, 12:09 PM
How far out is the TGS anyway? Maybe they're just ill-prepared and didn't want to show the same things they've already released?

Ooooooooooooh I am pumped for Assassin's Creed. I've heard rumors that a playable demo will be released at E3. I've also heard that the same demo will be available on Marketplace at some point this month.
BioShock is another.

I've been well out of the loop. I thought BioShock had already been released. :/

Im not going to get Assassin's Creed or Bioshock :/

It's supposed to have free-roaming elements. Add that to the footage I've seen so far and it looks like it has the potential to be great.

TGS is 20th September. There hasn't really been that much shown of SSBB to be honest. Anyway, if it's due to come out this year, one can only hope they're a good way through the development process.

Wipeout PS3, maybe. Can't think of many games that we've never seen, that I want to see. Hopefully a posse of crackhead Gears of War fans with chainsaws rush the conferences this year.

07-10-2007, 01:10 PM
yeah, they did really good on that site for a couple reasons. People who were skeptical of the trailers got sidetracked by all the new stuff they're showing, and it does show alot of how the game is going to be.

Yeah, and Nintendo only said that they would not have a playable demo of it available. We will still most likely see a trailer, or a Nintendo Rep playing it.

Besides Brawl, I hope to see more of Mario Galaxy, Rock Band, and I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope they announce Metal Gear Solid 4 for 360. God, I need that game.

Seeing a stage demo of Brawl would be nice. I'd like to see some more of Distaster: Day of Crisis if anyone apart from me remembers that game. :p
Aside from games, what else do you reckon's gonna pop up at E3? I have a feeling Sony will have more details on the PS3 price drop situation and they might, though I severly doubt it, tell us more about the PSP redsign.

Bioshock looks fricken sweet, I'm really psyched about it.
Also looking forward to some Assassin's Creed info.
There's going to be GTA4 stuff as well innit?
A MGS4 on the 360 announcement would be nice.
Whether Assassin's Creed is the best thing since melted butter on popcorn remains to be seen, but it certainly looks promising. With no demo planned, most gamers won't get to enjoy the experience of performing assassinations in old Jerusalem until November.

07-10-2007, 09:41 PM
Besides constant denials from Kojima about a port, the MGS4 trailer is being released exclusively on PSN, so that more or less rules out any 360 announcement.
I'm looking forward to the new trailer though, especially since it's the first with the English voice actors. I'm also hoping for some new Left 4 Dead gameplay footage, as well as Heavenly Sword and Little Big Planet. My two hopeful-but-unlikely wishes though are news about the next Team Ico project(s) and anything at all on Silent Hill 5.

The Microsoft gig was pretty cool tonight. One of the coolest things about it, everything except one game shown will be released by the end of the year. But this also alienates everything coming out afterward.
The demo of Assassin's Creed was particularly spectacular. Call of Duty 4's was inspiring, too.
Oh, and Resident Evil 5 (this being the game coming out later). They had a short video, with the full trailer being released later this year. Seemed to be along the lines of some tropical island voodoo going on.
The 360's got me very excited.

Medal Of Honor for the Wii will have 32 player online play. I guess that's pretty cool.
Kurrpt
07-11-2007, 01:15 PM
yea, if they game play is bad arse, I'd much rather play a shooter with the wiimote. I find it intuitive, and addicting.
Apparently Medal Of Honor was built around the Wii Zapper, which has been changed as well. I'm not buying one, but hopefully this will be better than some games *coughredsteelcough*
Kurrpt
07-11-2007, 01:20 PM
i thought red steel was fine, as far as the controls
the game play kinda pulled me out of the game about 3/4 of the way through it
I just read the liveblogs for Microsoft and Nintendo, and here's what I gathered so far:
- Nintendo still justifying the Wii. We get it already
- Wii Fit with pressure sensitive controllers or something
- SSBB in December, which means like a year away for us Brits
- 100 titles in the year, probably a lot of those are VC titles
- Some inbred Mii/Everybody Votes channel I won't download
- Microsoft still pimping out Halo with a green console and live action Halo short and me still not caring about Halo 3
- Some new Viva Pinata party game. Man, Rare really are Microsoft's bitch now
- 100 XBLA games by the end of the year = complete win :D
- Weather features in PGR4 make Forza 2 look last gen
- There'll be a Xbox Live open beta for COD4 online :D :D
Kurrpt
07-11-2007, 01:45 PM
i must say, I havent seen much of CoD4, but i'm already starting to like it more than the other 3 combined
rare is owned by M$, so yea, its their bitch
i couldn't care less about halo 3. its going to be the SAME FUKKING GAME
From what I hear, COD4 is gonna be monster. If anything can kill Halo 3, it's this. The multiplayer has a sort of Lost Planet feel now, in that you can level up and gain new things when you do. Like if you kill 5 people in a row, you can call in air strikes and stuff.
The COD guys always pull out epic stories with the older games, so it should be interesting to see how well they do in a modern environment.
Kurrpt
07-11-2007, 01:50 PM
I skip all these "epic stories" anyway
New PSP has been announced. Shock horror is in accordance.
Also, some monster games. New SWAT game, new Syphon Filter, new WipeOut, along with others we knew were coming (GOW, FF Tactions, Dracula X).

I mean, why would I need a new one?
The streaming is pretty cool I guess, but still, why would I stream movies to my PSP from my harddrive when I can just watch them on my laptop in a bigger screen (Or better yet, plug that into a TV and watch it from there).
Kurrpt
07-11-2007, 02:06 PM

By the way, the new PSP can be plugged into a Sony HDTV and you can display whatever's on the screen at the time. In other words, you can play PSP games on your TV. I think they get upscanned too.
The Nintendo conference sounded decent (I'll have to download it later as couldn't watch it live). Some excting announcements made, methinks.
Couldn't watch the Sony conference either, but from what I've read in a live blog so far, it's games, games, games and Chewbacca. :p

Of all the PS3 games coming out this year, I think the ones I have to get are Heavenly Sword and Unreal Tournament III. But I'm also interested in GTA IV, Wipeout HD, Assassin's Creed, Warhawk, Oblivion GOTY, The Simpsons Game, Ratchet and Clank, Haze, Lair, Call of Duty 4, Time Crisis 4 and Half-Life 2 Orange Box. Then next year is MGS4, Tekken 6, Killzone 2, DMC4, Soul Calibur IV, Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet, Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy XIII.
I don't have a Wii, but all the first party games that were shown at E3 looked fantastic. Wii Fit is a great idea and will probably be another multi-million seller for them. Mario Kart looks as fun as ever, but now has online play. The level design in Super Mario Galaxy demonstrates more imagination than I've seen in any game for a long time. Running on the surface of boss monsters that have their own gravitational pull; gliding through space and landing on miniature worlds; whole levels that flip over to become something different and ones that look like you've been dropped into a giant kid's puzzle with shifting blocks and abstract shapes. Pretty much anything can happen in a game, and yet too many attempt to recreate the look and laws of the real world. Heck, Crackdown is so popular because you can kick trucks out of your way and leap between buildings, whereas most games want you to have realistic physical abilities.

mario kart HAD online play for like 2-3 years now, thoughWell, first home console one with online play, rather.
Going back to an earlier conversation that I missed: they are never going to add a second PSP stick just as much as Nintendo are never going to make a DS with two touch panels. Any games designed for dual-stick control wouldn't be compatible with the first-generation PSP systems. Every game still has to work well with the base controls; they could only ever add an optional dual-stick control type for the people who have the newer model, so it isn't worth it. It's not the same as Sony adding sticks to the PS1 controller and telling you to buy a new one. When you change a handheld's controls, you're changing the system. It's only going to happen with a possible successor to PSP, not an update to the current one.
Andrew: The PSP-TV compatibility is not only for Sony-brand televisions, I think. Sony kind of refer to all television as "Bravia." I just had a look at the full specifications and they are going to sell 2.5 meter cables that connect the PSP up to any standard TV jacks, including S-video and Component. So anything you have loaded on your PSP can be sent to the TV. That includes games, but also high-definition video. I can't imagine much of that would fit on a memory stick.
Kurrpt
07-12-2007, 10:26 AM
my memory card is 2 gigs, and it can handle a 4 gig.
I find the excuse not to add another analog is just, well, an excuse. They could easily do a firmware update to allow you to customize the controls for the analog
either way, theres really no point to getting a new one anyway.
C0NFUZ£D
07-12-2007, 10:31 AM
It's really just an update to replace the old model. They can make PSP slimmer and lighter and more energy efficient now, so they will. I don't think they expect many existing customers to rush out and buy another. Tretton alluded to there being many noticeable design tweaks for PSP over its life, not just the one major redesign that happened with PS1 and PS2.

C0NFUZ£D
07-12-2007, 10:40 AM
Ha, I want one too. I can get the white this time. With this new model they also let you dump some game data from a UMD onto the memory stick, to speed up loading. Which I suppose doesn't make a difference if you're a hacker that plays entire retail games right off a memory stick.

i don't see that at all
considering the industry grows every year, it wouldn't be in the industries best interest to do so.
if anything, I could see them making it more exclusive, but when you get that many investors interested, it stimulates the economy. Removing that would just be retarded

Well but think about it. All of the developers are putting on their own conferences these days to release information. You have to wonder if there is a point where E3 stops being worth the trouble because of all the other shows.
AMN: Why are games like Disaster and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. not being shown?
Beth Llewelyn: We shifted development resources. However, Disaster: Day of Crisis is still in development and coming along nicely.
AMN: So is Project H.A.M.M.E.R. canceled?
Llewelyn: Development resources have been shifted for the time being, but it may come back. But right now, it's not a focus of ours.
AMN: So it's not currently in development? Is it on pause?
Llewelyn: Uh... probably... yeah. Again, we shifted our focus. Some games have shifted development resources.
:D
Oh and Stuntman: Ignition demo is up on the Marketplace. I loved the first game, so I'll definitely be checking this out.

Alan Wake is one of the games I wish they were showing. I don't really care about a lot of the bigger titles. GTAIV had some gameplay that isnt allowed to be shown online, but apparently it was just "guy walks around, gets out of a car and answers his phone". The Killzone II trailer was cool but Killzone I was a shitty game so who gives a ****. RE5 teaser was useless. The Simpsons game looks like it could be fun.
Bah, whatever.
Yeah, E3 has been rather underwhelming this year. No huge titles no one knew about really, and any new footage of titles we already knew about was kinda minor at best for the most part.

I wouldn't call Killzone underwhelming however.

I dont care how pretty it is, if it plays anything like the first game it'll probably suck.

This year's E3 had very little in the way of "huge announcements" but I believe it's done a decent job of influencing gamer's future decisions. Showing all this new footage of games we've seen before (and some we knew about but hadn't seen) has more than likely got people excited about upcoming games, which is good news for investers of the different publishers.
E3's always had a focus on creating interest to make more money and I reckon this year's E3 has done just that.

Odds are it won't play like the last one (which I really didn't think was bad). People learn from mistakes, hopefully.

E3 was a little underwhelming, no demo's for Bioshock or Assassin's Creed and not much news about anything.
Umbrella Chronicles looks alright actually, and that Zapper looks convenient.
Umbrella Chronicles looks really, really, REALLY boring to me.

idk it looked a little repetitive after watching about 30 seconds of someone demoing the Zapper but it's definitely a rental.

By demo do you mean playable demo? Because they definitely showed off gameplay of Assassin's Creed.
I don't care it they had demos the press could play, since I wasn't there...

Sony's gay with that new bundle, they're giving you soon to be out dated controllers and sticking people with two games.
Why not just drop the damn price?
And phasing out the 60GB model and getting rid of that BC chip is lame too.

by the time sony figures out how to make the ps3 work (i. e. make something interesting with it) we will be in the next generation of consoles.

They aren't phasing out the 60GB model, and getting rid of the chip is a good idea since it cuts on costs. Software emulation for BC is fine.
As for the new bundle, it's pretty good dude. 60GB model, 2 controllers, 2 good games. I won't be buying one, but Sony has a strong fanbase here in Europe, so I think they think they can get away with not cutting the price.

I heard that once the 60GB model sells out the only one on the market will be the 80GB at the price the 60GB is now.
The bundle is only good if you want Motorstorm, but no rumble is gay (I've grown used to it) and Motorstorm looks meh. And anyway, a lot of Aussie retailers have been having deals similar to this in the past month or so. tbh they would've sold a lot more consoles taking the price down 15-20%
E3 2007: Confirmed -- PS3 Price Drop Temporary
Once the 60GB model is sold out we will be returned to our regularly scheduled price tag.
Today GamesIndustry.biz received confirmation from David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, that the 60GB model will not be continued in Europe.

Damn, I just read more about that. What the hell are Sony thinking? Announcing a price cut, but making it just to clear out stock inventory, which will make the new product the same price as it was before?.
As for the bundle, I still think it looks good. Motorstorm looks pretty fun, and Resistance is a decent FPS game. I think it just gets stick because the PS3 controller is useless for FPS games. And as far as rumble is concerned, I doubt I'd even notice.
Then again, I'm not buying a PS3, so whatever :p

Except, despite being one of Konami's biggest series and the first SH on next-gen consoles, they've decided to give the game to The Collective instead of Team Silent, who've mostly made nothing but movie tie-ins that have been panned by critics, so it's gone from the best news of E3 to the worst.
Also, I think Sony will have to drop the price on the 80gb. I've heard the 80gb is cheaper to make, so they might just be clearing their stock of the 60gb, and then they'll drop the 80gb down to $499 when it's the only one available. If they announced that that was their plan now, no one would be buy the 60gb but would wait for the new SKU to fall to $499 instead. I really don't think they'd announce a price cut like this, when really it's nothing but a clearance sale.
