So, I recently decided to dig into electronic music a bit, due to my recent acquisition of a new laptop (Macbook). I'd never really used a computer for making music except for a bit of house-ish music made in Fruity Loops. So I got myself Logic Express, Pd and some other stuff and started making sample-based music, created from "real" instrument recordings I made myself.

I'm listening to a lot of abrasive experimental electronica, like Merzbow, Fennesz, John Wiese, Autechre and Nordvargr right now, so that's kinda the direction it took. And eventually, I managed to get enough material for a full "album" together (about 45 mins) in a month. So I thought up a pseudonym for the whole thing (SSH Visor, which is a part-anagram of my real name), assembled the 6 tracks I made in an order, gave them weird, acronym-like titles and called the album A Clinical Printer (another part-anagram of my name).

The music is kinda abstract industrial-ish with a crunchy, noisy egde (but not necessarily "harsh"). It's not structureless though, most tracks have a kind of "rhythm". It's not beat-based either, but it has a kind of weird groove.

I uploaded one track (160kbps MP3, about 11 mins), called APSH-KSA, based mostly on acoustic percussion for you to try and if you like that, you can download the full album (same format) as a zip file (about 50MB).

Tell me what you think of it! Remember, this stuff still represents a learning process for me, so don't be harsh. Also, if you're not into noisy experimental music, don't bother with it.

Cheer, VM.

so from listening most of this, its pretty standard noise stuff. the first few songs seem to be the least interesting, kind of sounding like a more boring john wiese.

the last three songs are great though. sounds like kind of taking more "rhythmic" merzbow stuff and making it into kind of some noisy trance.

Thanks for critiquing my song.

As for APSH-KSA: I've never listened to experimental noise music before, so this was really a trip for me. I must say I rather enjoyed it. Some of the really high-pitched "clicky" percussion got a bit annoying to listen to, but most of it I found more palatable. You made pretty good use of dynamics. I really liked the part starting at about 6 1/2 minutes. The sound almost implies people screaming in the background (at least that's what I heard). Cool.

First of all: thanks a bunch to both of you guys.

I pretty much assembled the tracks in the order in which I made them, and as I said, the whole album is pretty much me learning the ropes of electronic music production, so naturally the first coupla tracks sound kinda poor. I just listened to it again, and TTA-L struck me as a snoozefest. On KTHY, I had no idea how to "intelligently" use distortion, so there's a lot of sludge there. The piece was intended to be a lot more "free-flowing", actually.
But I really like O12 (2), CTHI and APSH-KSA, they're all pretty close to what I wanted to achieve with them.

Also, I'm working on new stuff right now, and I'm trying to incorporate some melodic elements. I recently ordered a MIDI controller, so there's gonna be some soft-synths on there, plus I'm currently cutting up a recording I made with my Nintendo DS, using Electroplankton.

APSH-KSA is pretty good. I can't really offer a critique because there isn't too much wrong with it.

Thanks again! I seem to be on the right track with what I'm doing, so to speak.
