As many of you probably know they've been posting web updates of the recording process from their new album. Here are some choice updates:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QEMkUOoJeY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU2jpHmz2sI (that one beat in this one is absolutely insane)
And here's that nasty riff from "Sugar Coated Sour" layed out on guitar.

I like how the new drummer is a mesh between Kevin Federline and Travis Barker without either of their skill.

Nah, Miss Machine had a song or two but most of them were just boring and seemed to be a parody of what the band used to be.

Is their new drummer really that bad?
santi3hg
06-29-2007, 02:14 PM
Compared to Chris Pennie. Yeah.
You can't get anything better than a Berklee student when it comes to being a percussionist. Chris is really, really, good. I've seen him in a clinic he did once.

He dropped out of Berklee, but yeah he is probably the best drummer I have ever heard.
santi3hg
06-29-2007, 02:41 PM
Yeah he did drop out, but still getting in and receiving instructions for the two years he was in=pretty great skill.

This is a funny update. http://www.punknews.org/article/24600
Pennie sounds weird as hell. Maybe he had to make $$ for his family or something.
santi3hg
07-13-2007, 04:53 PM
Sounds like it, that or he wanted to make his drumming career profitable. If I was him I would of graduated from Berklee.
Thats why he isn't on major drum clinics, big sponorships and being hired by others if you ask me.

Maybe he just got tired of dealing with DEPs fanbase.

That and isn't he older than most of the guys in the band as well. By like four years or so?
I think, he thinks he is too mature for DEP.

well coheed will probably fit him better lol

Dude 4 years apart in your 30s is way different than 4 years apart in your teens/20s. Maybe he gave himself an exit horizon. Like if DEP isn't major label by age 35 (dunno?) he'd leap up to that point because he's so nasty at drumming he couuld just be a studio/tour drummer for a major act anyway.

I'm not going to judge Gil till I hear the album.

That article sounds tongue-in-cheek. It's really hard to determine whether DEP take interviews seriously but the reply messages on that site are pretty stoopid.

I've never seen them do an interview completely seriously.

True. Especially with that little Avenged Sevenfold feud a while back

This is what Pennie had to say in response.
It is a little disheartening to read what the guys have been saying about me. I still love the band and I still love the music. But there was some internal strife there and things were happening that I did not agree with. It is what it is, if they want to handle it that way then fine, I don’t want a ****-shouting match or to be a posterboy for somebody else’s press campaign.

Hahah But Weinman said there wasn't one specific reason behind Pennie's departure. It had nothing to do with internal strife or a difference of opinion within the band. It wasn't a matter of not liking the direction Dillinger's new material was going in. It just was.
But there was some internal strife there and things were happening that I did not agree with.
Top notch reporting.

Pennie does seem like the more mature one. I'd trust his side tbh.

Well seeing that other members piss in cups and **** onstage, its pretty easy to be seen as the mature one by any length.
