View Full Version : Selling My Kit

Berk

I've been thinking about it alot. I want to sell my kit. The reasons why I want to sell the kit is because (mostly) of the sizes. They are quite big and the 24" bass drum really limites rack tom placement. Now, Should I wait untill I get some money and really upgrade or should I try and find something I like?

And How should I sell it? Should I trade it in to a music store, Ebay?, or Should put an add in the newspaper?

Opinions?

What kind of kit is it? It's usually easier to sell things locally, but if there's not a market, then go eBay or something.

go by your music store and see what they'd give you fore it

then try ebay, and idk if you can, but if you can, at the end if the music store has the better offer, take it off

i don't sell stuff on ebay though, so idk

eBay can be quite frustrating. It's harder than you think to sell stuff on there. Especially with the shipping deal. Try locally, then store, then eBay. Good luck!

In my experience, stores usually won't give you nearly the price you could get for equipment if you do it on eBay or locally.

^^Amen to that.

Should I trade it in to a music store, Ebay?

Just straight no. My brother had a Marshall AVT half stack that was worth $800 or so and Guitar Center gave him around $350. Horrible deal.

Amen to that! http://sputnikmusic.com/forums/images/icons/lol.gif

I can't belive you're going to sell that beautiful kit!?

I love it so much!

What are you thinking about getting to replace it (20" basses FTW btw ;) )

I think you should wait and then have a huge blitz and buy loads of stuff you want for your kit and a new kit :)

Ebay will get you the price it's worth, but shipping will be a huge hassle.

Local music shop will get you less than what it's worth, but no shipping.

Some newbie that doesn't know anything about drumsets in your area will get you more than what it's worth plus no shipping. (BEST VALUE)

That is a huge bass drum, if you were a little thinner you could wear it as a skirt.

Dude, do not sell them through a store!
The commission they will ask is totally ridiculous. You'ld make more money even when selling them to someone on another continent and paying for shipping yourself, I'm not kidding.

What I'm gonna do with my DX's is place ads, ads, ads, ads and then place some more ads. That's your best bet to make the most money of it.
I admit I have no experience with selling stuff on e-bay, but as I understand it, selling on e-bay costs money (they take a precentage).

I don't know where you're from, but over here there are tons of 2nd hand websites where you can just place ads at no cost whatsoever. The way I see it, the only advantage e-bay gives you is some juristic safety. But truth be told, that only comes in handy when you are selling internationally.

Why would you go through e-bay if you sell the goods to someone 3 blocks down the road, right?

What I'll do is place ads in local papers, 2nd hand websites, spread folders at the local studio's and generally just spread the word in the music scene of the region.

I mean, musicians know musicians who know musicians who know musicians etc, right? Each drummer over here knows at least 2-3 other drummers. Mouth to mouth goes very fast.
Personally, i'm not in a hurry, so I really don't mind if it takes me 3 months to find a potential buyer (although I'ld be surprised if that was the case with all the ads, websites, folders, etc).

Sure thing Peekay.
Drop me an email NOW (my address is in my profile) so that I know (and remember) where I can contact you.

I'll send you an inventory, pics and prefered prices as soon as I get everything straightened out.

And as said before, I deliver totally free of charge in person anywhere in Belgium and south Netherlands (company car ftw).

To get on topic: definitely try to sell them locally. It's the best option you've got... there's always someone interested in such a drumkit...

20" bass drums simply rock! I have a 20x18"... orgasmic sound you get from that!

Berk

Berk, How much do you want for them?

I think I might sell it for $800.00.

18x22 Kicks really are amazing for me, but it'd be rad to have a 20 and 22 kick... ack thats just my random thought, best of luck to you Berk!

A music store has to make a profit. If they let you sell it on consignment, they'll take at least 20%, often more. If they buy it or take it on trade, you'll be lucky to get half of what its worth because they have to resell it at a profit. Try selling locally, then E-bay. Maybe Craigslist? I had good success selling my last kit on E-bay as a shell pack then parting out some of the hardware separately (also on E-bay). I just didn't have much of a market for it here locally.

Berk
06-27-2007, 04:29 PM

lmldrummer

with heads/hardware and ****?

cause there's no reason for you to keep that stuff really

and yeah, for that, i'd say the same as plasma, most likely on the lower end though, unless you sell it to a beginner

Berk
06-27-2007, 04:34 PM
Id say about $450-500 would be the most youd get for it, tbh.

Why?

Ehh $800.00 is ok

06-27-2007, 04:37 PM
it's a 2001 right?

2005's go for less than that, and the 2001 is at least 2 years behind that, don't know exactly when, so plasma's prob. right

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/perc/navigation?q=sonor+2005

even if it's just as good, it being older is enough to make people not pay as much

what part don't you get?

if you payed 750 for the kit, there's no way in hell you're gonna sell it for 800, unless you through other stuff in

what i mean is, what exactly are you selling? bass and toms are pretty much a given. what about rims and heads for bass and toms? and are you selling the snare too? and anything other than those^

Berk
06-27-2007, 04:40 PM
Do you know what a shell pack is? Its the drums (including Snare). No stands, Pedals, hihat stand.
