hey everyone i need a new crash. ive had b8s for about a year and a half and finally cracked both of them within like a week of eachother now they sound absolutly terrible u cant play with um. im looking to spend around $200-250 preferibly.

onto the new crash though. the 2 big things im looking for is versatility and durability. i want something that is gonna last a little bit. and also i want something that i can play any kind of music with rock, punk, maybe some jazz and stuff like that and it fits in good with those. pretty much just a good all around crash is what im looking for. im looking for more of a glassy sound i guess with a good decay. and the problem is the music store up here doesnt have that much of a selection so they probly wont have it so i cant test it out in real life so im relying on you guys and the sound clips.

some of the ones im looking at is the 17" A custom crash, the 17" A custom medium crash, 17" hhx legacy crash, the AAX studio crash, and the A series crash. so guys tell me what you think. let me know your opinion in what i should get. my other cymbals are 13" z custom dyno beat hats, k custom hybrid ride, and a 17" AAX xtreme china.
thanks for the help

AAX is too one-dimensional if you want something all around.

The A Custom medium crashes are absolutely amazing and I could see them working in multiple genres. Might be a little thin for some music, but they should be okay at 17" for what you're going to be playing.

The HHX line as a whole is a little darker, so definetely check it before you consider it.

Overall, I'm going to reccomend those A Custom medium crashes.

Or, if you want to go with Sabian, try their 16" or 18" AA medium crashes. I've got the 18" and it's awesome.

learn better technique before you buy more cymbals first of all

i have heard a customs are really versitale, and that aax in particular will be to one dimensional, you could look into some aaxplosions though

I've had my B8's for three years and there is no signs of cracking, so you probably hit very hard.

17" A Custom crash. Me and at least 5 others here have them and love them. Great for almost all kinds of music and a GREAT cymbal. I cannot emphasize the 17" or the A Custom or the crash enough, 17" A Custom crash. It comes highly recommended from half the board.

BTW, my old cymbals are at least 15 years old with no damage.

When I was looking for cymbals, I didn't really take my time like I should have. However, I ended up with an AAX, and couldn't be happier!

I would highly recomend:
2002 Crashes(the standard ones)
AAX Studio Crashes
HHX Studio Crashes

All amazing sounding crashes and rather versetile i've found

The 17" and 19" (moreso the 17") K Custom Hybrids are very versatile cymbals, they are stunning on theears and eyes ;)

Maybe look at Zildjian Avedis? They look pretty good too

You want a good all around crash for multiple styles of music.

Paiste: 18'' 2002 crash (personal choice)
Zildjian: 18'' A Medium crash
Sabian: I hate Sabian

But if you have broken B8's, you might want to think hard before buying expensive crashes.

for the crash: paiste 2002, 17" A Custom or K's.

as for the technique, try to improve that. Unless it broke due to its quality

Dont get an AAX Metal Crash, I have one and its cracked in a number of places, it cracks well to easy, it doesnt sound that great and never really did. I only use it as a ride cymbal at gigs and if I ever need more power which I rarely do cus I have a Z Custom Rock Crash and I love that cymbal.

Hardly versatile are they.

B8's, while easier to break than pro cymbals, are still quite tough.

Mine's living proof, thank you very much.

don't get a "heavy" cymbal just because you think it can take more beating

they crack faster

and really do learn good technique, there's a place on the paiste site that i don't think anyones posted yet, so look here http://www.paiste.com/faqs/

ok im heres what im thinking. im thinking im gonna get the 17" k medium-thin dark crash. but then i just looked and the 17" k custom hybrid crash is only 5 bucks more but its also thin. im thinking the medium thin will do me better cause im more on the heavy hitter side then the soft side im not that hard of a hitter though. tell me if this is a good choice or what you think. thanks

it should be fine if you use good technique, it doesn't really matter how hard you hit then

just get good technique, and thin is fine, movements travel easier

paper thin is a stretch though

you could probably get two crashes from music go round for 200-250.
