So, I'm making a little extra money at my job and I've always been fascinated by synths, but am left disappointed by the only soft synths I have (I just have the Garageband one, sadly), so I've been looking into getting a nice synth to toy with and maybe gig with. I was first looking at the Mini Korg, but after spending an hour with both the mini Korg and the Roland SH-201, I fell in love with how simple it was to get new sounds out of the SH-201, so so-far thats whats on my buy list, and as I've read many mixed reviews on it, I thought I'd see what ya'll thought about it.

I've looked at a few others as well, like the Alesis Micron and it seemed to me based on my first impression that you were mainly playing with pre-sets and weren't really able to do much more than that, granted, I could be horribly horribly wrong, so don't hesitate to correct me.

So anyway, what do ya'll think of the SH-201?

I haven't heard much about the SH-201. However, I know a guy who has an Alesis Ion (a step up from the Micron) and it's pretty good for crafting your own sounds, it's a very versatile instrument. The harmonycentral.com reviews for it are all pretty good. You could also check there for reviews on the SH-201.

Awesome, thank you so much for your reply. Im going to go check out the link right now.

And as for the SH-201 Im starting to sway away from it, as even just in my weekly dicking around with a display model at Guitar Center, I think I've hit a real roadblock with what it can do, and my own practical applications, so I've begun seriously looking at the Micron, or maybe a Juno D.

I played around with one in guitar center today and it seemed pretty versatile. I'm definitely interested in picking one up once I get the cash.

Its certainly a very cool toy. A lot of the reviews I've read say that they like it, but for the price wish it did a little more, and from my toying with it that seems to be the case. But I really do like having everything so readily adjustable.

Although it seems Im getting an Aleisis Micron, as I found one for a hundred bucks on ebay.
