Hi, I wish to record a band/and or drums in plain stereo. I have bought 2 matching behringer c-2 mics (I know, I know, it's all I can afford) I have a laptop and a behringer ub1002fx (nothing but quality here  )
anyway my question is how do I get a "stereo" mix , at the moment I'm pluging each mic into ch1 and ch2, then running tape out L&R from mixer to an adaptor pluged into laptops mic input (which is stereo)
I seem to be getting two mono sources though, have I got it connected correctly?, or do I need an interface or something.
cheers.

Uh, am I missing something? L+R audio = stereo doesn't it?

can't you combine the two mono sources into a stereo mix?

thanks for your replys, yer It might be the connector. I thought I could pan one channel left and the other right to get a stereo mix but if I pan either channel left I get nothing but panning right is OK. ?

It sounds like either:

1) The adapter is a mono splitter/joiner. Which basically means that if you plug it into a stereo source, only the left side will probably have signal. Failing that, it's also possible that both the left and right side will have the same signal, which sounds like a possibility based on the description (more details would help). This is a pretty inexpensive fix, since for about $10 or less you can buy the appropriate adapters. You'll want a 1/4" stereo female to 1/8" stereo male adapter, and then a TS/TS to TRS Y cable (often called an "insert" cable). When you purchase, double check that all plus are appropriate. A mono plug will have a single ring on it. A stereo plug will have 2 rings on it.

2) The mic input is in fact not stereo, and instead of recording in stereo, the recording software is just doubling up the mono side and telling you it's stereo. This really depends on what software you're using. What software are you using?
