my friend sent me this video, its not really a ground breaking though, but a very logical one at any rate...
http://www.break.com/index/tough-to-argue.html
thats pretty much how i look at it, even if its not a problem - the pollution and energy being wasted is still a threat and is unnacceptable. Either way, something should be done, and if it happens anyway because thats just what nature had in store, well hey we tried. and if doesn't happen - then we're still living in a better, cleaner (hopefully) world.
so uh, yea - debate. and don't be a dick.

I watched this yesterday and frankly I agree with it.
I honestly think everyone should watch this movie whether you agree with global warming or not. Just watch it before your lame responses.

This makes sense but its possibly based upon a fallacy. He is looking at it through pure statistics, assuming that there is an equal amount of facts on each side of the global warming case that contradict each other. I think that the truth is out there, but it is obscured in scare tactics rhetoric instead of presented objectively. I think we would all do better to perhaps subsidize scientists ( though I don't like the idea of government subsides too much) to work harder and longer at the problem as well as do our own investigating and not take "information" presented to us that uses scare tactics without a big grain of salt.. Of course at the time time, we should be doing the actions in column A row A but to a greater or lesser extent as shown by the objective scientific results.

They say global warming is caused by the ozone layer depleting, but isn't it suspicious that we can't even see the ozone layer?

Actually, they say it's caused by excessive emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases retain the infrared wavelengths being reflected back into space. Thus, the more greenhouse gases there are in the atmosphere, the more energy is retained, the warmer the earth becomes.

It's okay, the majority of scientists are just joking with the world. This is all a big joke and we'll get a laugh about it sometime in the near future. Crazy scientists in their labs and their majority consensus.
Check out this article:

That delivers a decent argument about global warming being overblown.
That said, I strongly believe that we are just asking to be screwed over with our arrogant lives in America. Do a lot of research and you'll begin to understand that the debates are political, but the answer is found in the consensus of the scientific community. I'm sick of doing research for this. A few all nighters and 2 papers later and I've arrived at the conclusion that this world is screwed if it resists a healthy change. There's a lot of stuff out there. You'll enjoy finding stuff out on your own.

I think it's just retarded to believe we can continue to live the same way we always have, forever. Fossil fuels are limited. Technology is making widespread, drastic changes possible. It's comparable, although not entirely the same as, people resisting the proliferation of automobiles, opting to keep using horse-drawn carriages....and (hypothetically) those horses are endangered.

True. Especially when countries like China are trying to emulate us. Theres barely enough room for just us to live like this. Nature and economics will work things out though.

there was an article in a news paper a few months back about the rate of economic growth being experienced in China right now. Something a long the lines of a new coal fired power plant being built every week. It said that even if Canada cut its GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions to ZERO and was completely green, that China would pick up our slack in 6 months. Even when proper emissions equipment is given to them by the UN, it is rarely installed or operated. I don't recall the exact numbers, but i believe the average GDP per capita that must be reached before a country begins to reduce its sulphur dioxide is something $7000 USD and $15000 USD before they begin to reduce their GHG, China is still a very long way off of this.

While I am very environmentally aware and believe we should be making changes to be more environmentally sound, that video hardly presents a compelling argument.
Everyone knows the easiest way out of an economic depression is a war. So it's hard to say an economic depression would not have similar effects as predicted in the other column.
