Yeah, those were released I believe at winter NAMM.
I dunno, I think they are pretty lame, too much of one-trick ponies. I guess if you really want to be T3H UBERMEHTULLZZ!!!1!!1! then they are okay, but I won't be buying one.

That's pretty metal. Not gonna lie.
What kind of wood is that?

I cant stand anything lower than the D below low E. Everything lower is too muddy for me and loses all definition, its 'felt rather than heard'.
Plus its a pretty mediocre looking Bass.

Hey guyz look im playn a base
Most good metal uses high notes in bass too, this bass seems pointless, get a 7 string if you're going to play F#

True. Like I sort of said, if that is really what you do it is okay, I just don't see it being good for anything but metal.

I can see it having a few practical applications, particularly if you like the kind of licks/arpegios that require more fret range but you dont like the higher notes.

I don't really see where F# = metal. It's a low note... so?
The Dark Lord is ugly, however. But I think F# has plenty of applications. And you really don't need massive speakers to articulate the note properly. I'm sure there are people who can properly explain it, but you definitely don't need to run out and buy an Accugroove Whappo Grande to hear a defined F#. I've downtuned my B string to F# and it still sounds fine through my Epifani. Any mud is from de-tuning that far down.

But look at the shape! You can only play that bass for metal. Anything else makes you look like a noob. :p
I totally understand that you can do other things than play metal. But it's pretty obvious they were aiming at a metal crowd with the incarnation.

Well, yeah. I was more addressing the people who were commenting on the range of it. I won't disagree that their target audience was clearly metal.

Why not string a good looking bass BEAD though, and you can probably get one that sounds twice as good for half the price too.

Well traditionally metal guitarists measure penis size by how low they downtune, which is how we are getting this.
Plus, I think it really has few practical applications. In metal, the bass is often little more than a BOOM, as it is impossible to hear any articulation under the bone-crushing distortion of the guitars. For that this would be perfect.
I can't see it being really practical in other music. It isn't even that the F# string is useless, it is just that to go that low and only go up to A seems silly. If a 7 or 8 string has an F#, I am more likely to think that makes sense.

Wow that guy is terrible. I think thats the worst possible demo of an F# string one could give. You can use it for stuff other than metal, definitely. Jauqo III-X has a bass which is tuned C#F#BE, a full fourth below the "Dark Lord", and he uses it for funk fusion pretty well. Now, I would much rather just play a bass in standard, but there are real applications for those low notes, its just that bad metal bassists give low-tunings a bad name.
BenJammin
06-14-2007, 12:37 PM
Yeah, when I think of low tunings, Jauqo is my first thought.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the fundamental frequency of the F# around or below the range of average human hearing?

you wouldn't have to, i'm pretty sure Warwick also makes a bass that comes with BEAD strings as standard.

you can sorta hear it in that video, but i guess it's more impressive to KNOW that it's in F# rather than to hear it and think "hmm, mud"

I think average is 20 or so, that note is 46 or around there, so its within human hearing. Pianos have that note and more below.

Sexy bass. I think it could have practical applications if you let it. You're all being so disparaging, but what if you want to create a really low bassline, but still have it articulated? This bass would be perfect.

The fundamental of a low E is 41Hz, that F# is about 22Hz

Ah yes, I forgot that bass is notated an octave higher than it sounds. It is in human hearing range though, just.

Yeah, but that's not all you're hearing when you play an F# on a bass guitar. You hear the overtones or whatever that sound an octave over the fundamental.
