So I graduated and made a lot of money (almost 1600USD) and decided to treat myself to a nice bass, but I'm limiting myself to 800. Right now I'm leaning toward a Highway One Jazz. I'd love to hear some opinions on the HW1 Jazz or other ways I could spend my money, feel free to drop some suggestions

Only Requirements:
4 string
fretted
not a P bass
Is indeed a bass.

Ibanez ATK.

Feel free to elaborate more than 9 letters on why.

They're cheap as chips (for what you get in terms of sound) sound great, sort of stingrayish but clearer and more defined sound. Really full and ballsy sound.
Quite versatile in terms of EQ really nice neck, looks the biz and feels very well made.

Sounds awesome, but the bridge is killing me...its like the oppisate of a Lakland bridge.

Ah, IMO the bridge looks awesome and isn't likely to fail on you (i'd hope not seeing as it appears to be an integral part of the bass) and I suppose it can only benefit in terms of sustain.

go to the talkbass classifieds. Great deals there. And like half of the basses on sale are modified, so you can get something really cool.

Warwick Corvette
Yamaha TRB
Yamaha BB
Vintage Hollowbody (eBay)
MIA Fender Jazz (There's one at my local guitar shop as well as a nearby GC going for $700)
Ibanez ATK
Ibanez AFB (It's their new Hollowbody Bass)

Shall I keep listing? Ask any questions you have about these, cause I've been researching them myself.

Why limit yourself to $800? Blow the whole thing on a new bass, or at least bass related stuff! :p

...Am I helping?

In all seriousness I second the idea to check out the TB classifieds. There are always amazing deals to be had on there for basses that would retail well over what they get sold for.

I have an MM-2 in my lap right now. They aren't Stingrays, but I am perfectly happy with it.

About a million times better than the Thunderbird.

But if you had $800 dollars would you buy another one.

Gibson Thunderbird basses are ace, seriously nice metal tone.

if some has $800 they want to spend you dont suggest a $250 bass. You suggest something in that general price range.

1) Thunderbirds look awesome
2) they sound good too.
3) If you have $800 to spend, that doesnt mean you have to spend it all.

The OLP isnt a Stingray Obviously, but its not 1200 USD. And Id rather have one of those two basses, and then have an extra $400 towards an amp (like a GK 2001 RB or Ampeg SVT CL) Then spend $800 for a bass, playing one of those fender 100watt combos GC sells to high school bands.

plus theres the cost of strings, picks, straps, a case, and other expenses, like gas, clothing, hairspray.

lol maybe not hairspray, but my point is if you are going to spend 1200 on a musicman stingray, id say go for it, but if you are going to spend 800 bc thats what you have, thats stupid.

Clearly he's budgeting to the dollar, what with him spending 800 out of 1600.
