Hey guys,
first off, not been around for a while. i've had a lot of school work and exams and stuff, and a new girlfriend keeping me too busy to visit regularly.
right. i was set on a hartke rig for my next big buy. but has anyone any experience with warwick bass amps? i wanna find out what theyre like before splashing out on a hartke.
also, would the warwick complement my warwick bass well?
btw - the hartke rig i was set on; HA5500 500W head with tube and solid state pre-amps. a 4x10cab and a 1x15, both with aluminium speaker cones
cheers guys

I've heard Warwick amps really aren't that great but I haven't tried one in forever. I played through one or two but it was years ago and I completely forget how it sounded.
I've heard they're fairly mediocre, though and, if I remember correctly, I thought so, too.

I've played two of them... Whatever the largest solid state one is they have, and then the size down from it. I can't remember the model names of either which should give you an idea of my opinion. Its not that they were bad, its just that they were unremarkable. Pretty run of the mill tone to my ears. I can see them being very good workable amps/cabs for most musicians, and I can see them fitting well in a large number of genres, but there wasn't anything special about them.
...That being said my opinion of Hartke's current amp line... While there wasn't anything SPECIAL about the Warwick amps I played, there wasn't anything GOOD about the modern day Hartke amps I've played. Vintage Hartke stuff is a different opinion entirely.

cheers for the help guys
I love the HA5500, it sounds damned awesome with the warwick (what i played mine through once it arrived in the shop) - and the tube and solid-state preamps i thought was a nice feature. it gives me all the tone i need, without having to stretch to ampeg or markbass prices
it sounds then that warwick amps are very mediocre, and for a heft price tag, not worth it. i may see if i can give some a go at some point though. it'd be cool to have an all warwick rig.
and the other thing i'm GASing for at the moment, asides a Fender Marcus Miller sig, is a 5 or 6 string fretless. any recommendations on that front?

Go for the Miller sig.

the miller sig is by far the best fender i have ever played
but i dont need to splash out on a new bass right now, my rig needs an upgrade though
although the miller sig is just what i would go out and buy straight away if i won the lottery

If you can afford the Hartke, you can "stretch to" Markbass prices.
As for Warwicks, the rig I played through (ProFet 3.2 + 4x10) wasn't really good or bad, just dull and unimpressive. There's definitely better out there for the price (with regards to their solid-state heads, at least).

the thing is with markbass
i dont like it cos theres 0 control of the bass end on the amps, asides;
ballshaking within +/-10metres
and
bodyshaking within +/-100metres
the bass end is way out of control on their amps

Try turning the bass down...

Dan;
You know that i just bought a fretless 6 string, and bear a few scuff marks and all that, it was deffinitivly worth the price (and 3 times more) for me so far. i think you should go for one of thoose ;) and you might still aford the MM
and after my experience with warwick combos, they distort very nicely by themself. regular tone might be a little boring.
