Coca cola....that is.

If I were to clean some old rusty chrome drum parts that I got free with coke, .....then what would I clean off the coke with?

Chippy569

that won't promote the rusting that's already started?

Dry them.

Nah seriously clean the coke off with soapy water, then rinse and dry them throughly before putting them back on the drum.

are you sure you want to clean your hardware with coca cola? that sounds like a big, sticky mess. you'll have ants! maybe you should look into some chrome polish.

nah, coke should be fine...coke and some not so rough steel wool.

wipe clean with soapy water as mentioned and your in the clear.

...and...is that a cat IN your bass drum? poor kitty.

Yeah, while using the cocal cola, use some pizza too.
All this with the tv turn on if front of the drum set so that your kit can watch easily.
PS do it on Tuesday (next year of course) when champions league final will take place. ok?
Bobby johnny it's been a long time since the last time I met you around here.
Where have you been?

coke is so acidic the nozzles that fill the coke cans have to be replaced every other week because the coke dissolves them.

Who saw the Mythbusters episode about all of the coke myths? All that its really good for is cleaning chrome and blood, at least with what they tried it on. Not much on grease, and doesn't dissolve teeth, just turns them brown.

ahh mythbusters..... what the hell. blow it up.

But as seen on Mythbusters, just about any liquid can remove corrosion. Rust though, coke all the way:thumb:

Whoops, I mean Mythbusters brand cola lol

Okay, stupid question time -

I have very minor pitting on my chrome on my drums. Should i just use a chrome polisher on it, or use something else?

Thanks for any help.

I left some old no-name cymbals in cola for a few days a few years ago and documented it on this forum.

All i can say to summarise it was that any grease left from, fingerprints and such did not dissolve at all, but all parts of the cymbals without grease shined up quite nicely.

I'l post a link to the thread if you want...

I don't know if it will help with the chrome side of things, obviously because cymbals arent made from a lot of, if any, chrome.

just hit it with some chrome polish, keaton. If it's still bugging you, get some Steel Wool that is WEIGHT 0000 (it's more like cloth) and gently scrub the pits before re-polishing.

The acid and what not in coke isn't bad for you at all. We have acids in our stomach that can do just as bad if not worse.

Chippy569
06-08-2007, 11:03 PM
yes but our stomach is lined with mucus which is impermeable by hydrochloric acid (stomach acid).

and it's not in your stomach that the acid's a problem. It's in your mouth and throat. Do some bulemia research on how that HCl acid damages teeth and throat tissue, and figure CocaCola (etc) does the same.

Its not making enough contact for long enough period of time though to really do damage, unless you use it as mouth wash or something.

Coke *can* strip the paint on one's car, as can shaving cream ^-^
So just imagine what it can do to your cymbals, to your drums, and do your insides.

/doesn't drink carbonated drinks

Think about it, thousands of short contacts with your teeth over many years? It obviously does some damage over time. Or potentially at least.
