View Full Version : ITT I Play ZZ Top (poorly)
i was messing around the other day and worked out "La Grange" by ZZ Top; so i figured i'd make a video of it for my dad's birthday. it's rather boring, (drums would've helped but i couldn't make anything sound good), but oh well.

I enjoy how clean your technique is... The riffage wasn't that interesting tbh, but it sounded nice overall.

it sure was nice...would like to hear your attempt at ZZ Top's "Rhythmeen"...that would sure sound great...
your technique is flawless IMHO...

thanks man. but yeah, keep in mind it is ZZ Top.:p if it were being played in a band, that'd be a different story; but by itself...yeah, not too exciting.
BtB: i've never heard that song, i'll have to look it up.
EDIT: alright i checked it out. i've got the first couple riffs down, although i think i'll download the GP file to learn it a bit quicker.

love your technique/style
hate your tone
:)
awesome choice of song btw :thumb:
yeah man i just don't get it...when i'm recording, it seems like i'm getting a decent tone. not a tone that i'm completely happy with, (are any of us ever completely satisfied with our tone anyways?), but after i make the video it's like what the **** happened?¿
i know some of it's due to the horrendous compression that iMovie applies to make the video a decent file size. then YouTube compresses it...but that can't be the sole reason...
ah hell who am i kidding, i suppose it makes sense.
mediocore tone at the start + compression (x2) = crap tone.
GODDAMN I JUST CAN'T WIN.

I inspired Phil's tone.
EDIT: I expected a vocal melody with your magical 10 fingers.

that's pretty cool, i thought you were playing a regular guitar for a while until the more bass-sounding stuff came in. neat arrangement!

Very cool, I actually thought your tone was pretty damn good considering your immitating ZZ Top guitar chords. Nice harmonics haha.

I thought that your tone was good, and really good for a youtube video. I liked it, but I was expecting you to tap the bass line and guitar lines independently. I guess I am just starting to expect too much from you.
lowsound
haha nah man, i'm horrible at that type of tapping.
but i don't think you expect too much. honestly, the last several videos i've posted aren't up to par with my ability. i don't mean that in an arrogant way...but yeah. lately i've just been spitting out mediocre videos so my subscribers have something new to see. right now i'm caught between wanting to put up better videos, and recording new songs. not sure where i should put more focus...

Record new songs and do videos of them?
lowsound
well that'd be kind of hard...10+ tracks of bass, synth tracks, drum tracks?

I thought that was pretty sick. You transferred the original into how you play very well.
thanks man.
i might do that "Rhthmeen" song too. i had been working on it but i got side-tracked with the song i'm currently working on.

Cool idea, could have grooved more (man does the original sink into the pocket), but still fun stuff.

rhythmeen is a great song...I'm curious how you'll approach the song on bass...since the lead on the song is VERY guitar oriented.....can't wait to hear it man...
