on how one could create a chain of effects, using whichever plug-ins, to model a resonator guitar, using a dryly recorded electric guitar signal?

I played around with a sample (see below) to try it out a bit using EQ, slight tremolo, and reverb.

The actual plugins used were Electri-Q(posihfopit edition), Nomad Tremolo, and PSP Pianoverb.

I used the following clip as a starter:

The was a sample taken from FreeSound Project user pitx (http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/usersViewSingle.php?id=40665).

Here's the result of my efforts:

Both clips are available for use under the following license:

EDIT: Added clip with effects.

Well, wait until you hear the results first. Maybe I'm way off.

The general idea I had though was EQ to approximate timbre, some form of modulation to approximate the resonance of a metal body, and then reverb to address transients.

In reality, I don't think you need to make it perfect, if you're using it in a larger mix. You just need enough of the effect to trick the listener.

yeah. That's exactly the sort of thing I need, anyway. it'll be mixed in with a bunch of sampled keys, horns and drums anyway.

I've added the clip to my original post.

hmm. to be honest, it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but could probably still work.

you'd probably have to play with early reflections and some specific eq peaking to get that real resonance sound.

although I suppose I could try an acoustic, and do a combination of what we've both thought.
