My guitarist and I have been trying to write songs for weeks but to no prevail. WE are quite frustrated and we are looking for other ways to go about the song writting process in hopes to jump start our creative ideas.
Any ideas or suggestions of how to write songs.
P.s. We have been doings this for like 3 or 4 years and this is somewhat of a new issue as we try to write more creatively.
This is more of an instrument thing than a lyrical dealy.

Could you give us a little more detail? I mean "it doesn't work'' is a little scarce.

This is mostly a lyrical forum...but if you have any further questions try to ask in the stickied threads...or try your luck in the Audio Arena or Jam Session forums...

Your first writing issue is that you misspelled writing.

You have to know your theory well, when you know where you can go, it's easier to get there.
Then, don't listen to theory a lot, and compose music disregarding what you know about music.
It's a weird process, so I don't exactly know what your problem is.
Please, expand on the problem.

try listening to some music u havent heard in awhile, not neccessarily your favorite band or w/e, just something different, and take from it what u can, sometimes ull find a new element of creativity in it.

Or don't listen to music at all!
That works for me.
Don't force it.
It'll be obvious and rubbish

Great advice here.

Your first writing issue is that you misspelled writing.
Little irony never hurt anyone.
But all right, You guys said not to force it and thats what we have been trying to do lately. You end up with a shitty generic song...
What we are sort of looking for is a differet way to start a song off. Should we try writing lyrics first and then write instrements after that?
Ideas like that is kind of what we are looking for.
Thanks! have a good on.
Don't "try" any sort of process. That would again be forcing it. Just write whatever comes to your mind naturally and expand on that. If nothing is coming then just wait out your dry spell or perhaps you should reconsider quitting your day job.
