Slowly becoming one of my favourite thrash bands.

For those who don't know Kreator are a German group that formed in 1979, playing thrash metal with the black metal influence that bands such as Venom had brought to the table at the time. Along with bands such as Testament they managed to pull in a massive cult following and were perhaps one of the biggest and most influential bands outside of the big four. They are also one of the only thrash bands that have been cited as "better then ever" from a vast majority with their latest album, Enemy of God (St. Anger, anyone?). I can't verify how i feel about this as i haven't listened to the band or the album that much, but i haven't seen a review that doesn't run along those lines somehow.

I've been listening to their first few albums Endless Pain, Pleasure To Kill and Terrible Certainty. The riffs cut with a razor sharp tightness, great leads and excellent drumming make up some awesome music even though I hear the best is still yet to come. Kreator are the kind of band that you listen to and go "Where have i been?" if you haven't heard them before, i certainly didn't even know Kreator existed until earlier this year. Good sh*t.

They have their moments but they are not enough to be awesome.

Good first two albums, third is disappointing, but still good for CRY WAR among others.

I like thier first 5 albums (especially Pleasure to Kill and Coma of Souls) but after that they took a turn for the worse. I didn't think their last 2 releases were any good either.
All in all a pretty good band, but I prefer Sodom's material more.

Anyways, apparently Kreator are touring to Calgary on April 19th.. 2008. The wait is worth it though.

I prefer Kreator.

The only Sodom albums I really dig are Agent Orange, Persecution Mania and maybe In The Sign of Evil. Whereas Kreator's first five are all worth getting, there aren't many Metal bands who have had a streak of quality albums like that. Both bands are probably equal as far as influence goes though.

Sodom's newer stuff is probably better than Kreator's newer material but it's all gay modern Thrash anyway so that doesn't count.

I like Sodom more than this band.

I agree, and add Destruction to that too.

Bad production completely ruins Destruction up until Release From Agony. There are some great songs, but the production on the early albums is just atrocious. That's why Live Without Sense is the most enjoyable Destruction album for me. That and Release From Agony are the only Destruction albums you really need IMO.

To me, all Kreator songs sound the same, something Destruction and Sodom avoid.

Nice generalisation there Pate. If you can't hear the differences between Endless Pain and Enemy of God then you're obviously not listening hard enough. The differences aren't on Boris' level or anything, but claiming Kreator's songs all sound the same when Sodom and Destruction's don't is silly.

I've never heard of them. Do they have a site where I could hear some songs or something?

I tend not to count **** albums, hence my leaving out of Enemy of God.

Rephrasing: All "classic era" Kreator songs sound the same.

There still a fair difference between Endless Pain and Coma of Souls.

Cool. I was just checking because we had some knobhead called Dethroned Emperor 88 a bit back. I took great pleasure in telling him that two members of classic Frost/Hellhammer were jewish. And that Tom likes hip hop.

In other news, you were born in 88 which makes you nearly 20. My god I'm old.

There is a very similar production on their first few albums i have to agree but i do hear a difference.

I think Endless Pain and Pleasure to Kill sound quite similar, but after that they changed their sound a bit. There's definately a difference between the early stuff like Tormentor off Endless Pain and Coma of Souls.
