I was in Italy and my ladyfriend and I got on the wrong bus. We went to a local wine bar to call a cab and this nice lady said she'd drive us back to our hotel (30 miles away). Her boyfriend showed up and drove us home. It turns out he's the bassist for this band Aphelion and their new CD is currently being mixed by Derek Sherinian in LA. We talked about tech/prog/metal for the whole 30 minutes, a lot about Cynic. I checked out their stuff recently and it's nasty nasty nasty. Reminds me of a really heavy Liquid Tenison. What do you all think?

P.S. Sorry that the thread title makes it seem like an advertisement thread. I'm a mod and I'm not retarded this isn't some band whoring, it's just an interesting story and a good band.

Nonetheless it sounds good. The triplets are abused every now and then, it isn't very cohesive, but hell it's good.

It's not easy getting people in this forum to actually look at new things that aren't Necrophagist's new album or something.

I listened, they were good, but there's not really much to say beyond that.

No I know. I've never had high expectations for forum 23. In fact, my expectations are universally low at this point.

Doesn't sound like Cynic, but it sure does sound like LTE.

Great band, it's always great to hear new music.

You can hear the influence though. Like I said it's most like LTE but heavier. When I was talking with the dude he was saying that Focus was his first mind-opening CD and will always be an influence even if Aphelion isn't just like them or have some wack computer voice.

The keyboardist's lead sounds rediculously like Jordans, but hes using a nord electro...odd, im wondering if thats Luca Capozzi...or if hes knows him.

guy is rediclously good at synth programming and has a tutorial for JR's LTE lead.

Can't get myspace to work, as seems to be the case fairly often. I'll keep them in mind for future checking out though, thanks.
