Hey guys. I've been singing in a band for about 2 and a half years now, using a traditional SM58 for my vox, i'm thinking of upgrading to one of the Shure Betas this summer, though i'm not entirely sure (da dum cha) which would suit my voice better.
I have quite a rough, bluesy-rock kind of voice:

I'm singing lead vox on those. Dead end night and Wall of foundation are the most recent.
My initial thought was one of the 58s however I know that muse used the 57s for vocals in Black Holes and Revalations, so their not really to be completely disregarded...
Wacha think?

Wait, so you were thinking about getting either a beta57 / 58? Or just a regular 57? Because if you're thinking of getting the betas, look at the frequency response charts off of shure's website (just google them)
They're both very similar, though the 58 is a bit smoother in the upper-midrange areas, and that will help with sibilance (which is the part of speech that is identifiable as words, consonants, etc).
The beta 57 was made more for percussion instruments and brass instruments, whereas the 58 for vocals (though both their charts are similar)
I would just go with the 58 if you can

I have to agree with Poeticdrums. I have been using SM58's live since 1977. Always the best sound, always relaible, and I sing loud, always clean. Now I use a wireless SM58 Beta, but still with the same results. I Have tried them all AKG, Beyer, Senheiser, But always come back to the Shure Sm58 almost 30 years now

I was thinking of getting a beta 57/58 instead of my standard 58 that i've got now. I think i'll stick with the beta 58 idea, since it seems to be seen as a little better. Cheers for the response charts too man (y) repp'd =D
