This isn't a dig at Tre Cool, I'm a bit of a fan myself, but I wanted to know the following:

Why is Tre Cool considered such a good drummer?

From what I can gather, his beats work well, but they don't seem like anything special. The other day someone told me that Tre Cool was better than Travis Barker. (What the?)

So what am I missing?

Tre Cool's beats may work, but they seem simplistic and nothing out of the ordinary.

Just post your views on his drumming. I'd like to know what the hype is about.

Word on the street is he has great tempo and plays to the music.

That's all any good drummer needs to do tbh.

what's confusing about that pop-punk is a juvenile art form i'm not saying it's bad that he plays pop-punk otherwise i wouldn't be posting in here but if he's bursting with talent i have yet to see it

People tend to think that whatever they enjoy is better than it actually is.

Plus, it depends on who you ask. People who don't play instruments just say whoever their favorite band is has the most talented guitarist, etc.

Real musicians are full of themselves anyway, so who cares?

Ok, I thought maybe you just came in here to bash on pop punk musicians. :thumb:

You are right, many pop punk drumlines are pretty simple. I personally prefer the usual pop punk style. However, many rock drummers "overdrum" (I guess that's the word), IMO and there are several fantastic pop punk drummers.

if you've seen Tre Cool live, you'll know why

he and Travis are the best Poppunk drummers. but not the best overall.

and speed does not always equal talent.

Seriously Travis just bang his head and do big movements to hit the cymbals...
He is average, good style, but...
Good drummers just use the wrist

Travis does a lot of stuff for show, but he's still a good drummer. Not the best or anything, but he's definitely good.

So is Tre.

Ron Welty (former Offspring) has more talent than Tre and Travis, though they both are still talented at what they do.

okay, thats not all derek roddy is about though, playin fast doesnt equal boring drumming. seriously, check out his drumming on "I, monarch";

and repeat that foot-pattern, tre coolThat dude isnt even showing off, thats just how grind drums are.

no thats not how grind drums are, thats how death metal drums are. hate eternal is a death metal band, and all blastbeats aren't "grind drums".

Tre and especially Travis are two of the most overrated drummers. Don't get me wrong, they're good... but way the hell over rated. I've watched both live and watched videos of solos... they're playing basic beats, just with speed. They really don't use too much technicality in their performances. Anyone who knows basic drum beats and basic fills can look like them if they practice enough to get that fast. It's the combinational use of technicality with speed that sets one's skill level... not just speed. This post may seem negative, but its not. Im a fan of both.. I just feel they are overrated. And I dont just play the drums... I study it.. so my oppinions may be a little critical sometimes. And as for the comments that say they're atleast the best drummers in Pop/Punk music.. no.. just no... listen to some "pop/punk" drummers from bands that haven't made it anywhere near as big as them... some of them drummers are way the hell more talented... but public opinion wouldn't say so because of the success status of their band as a whole. But still... Tre and Travis are decent drummers with rhythm and can play fast... nothing special but two very important qualities for a drummer to have.
