Hey guys, just wondering what program I should use to modify voices to chipmunk, cyborg and that sort of thing...

Also to get that real screamy effect...

thanks

Since you don't provide specific examples, I'm going to assume a few things about what the effects are.

Chipmunk is probably just a pitch shifter. Shifting a voice up 1-2 octaves normally will create this sort of effect. Alternatively, you can play back recorded audio faster than it was recorded (like speeding up a tape or record).

Cyborg is most likely a vocoder, with a stochastic (ie, white noise, pink noise) or highly harmonic (ie, square wave, sawtooth wave) carrier signal. The modulator signal would be the voice.

Screaming is usually mostly influenced by the vocalist's ability to scream, though it can be somewhat "enhanced" with filtering/EQ and distortion. However, too much of either effect will be immediately obvious, so it should be used sparingly unless that's the effect you're going for.

Hey sorry fellas i'm new here and don't have priviliges to start a thread.

I got a software question, ok i'm not knowledgeable on audio editing stuff ,but since a few months back i've been wanting to find a program that i can delete the voice of a song and just leave the beat so i can sing over it.

I will like to know also what this action is called for future reference, thanks.

Go here:

Browse around and find VST plugin pitch-shifters, vocoders, and distortion. Play with audio files of voice to find what works for you.

This can be done to a certain degree with most professionally recorded tracks, using virtually any audio editing software.

go here: http://audacity.sf.net/

Import a music track, and then split the stereo track into two mono tracks. Use the "invert" effect on one of the mono tracks. Most vocals are panned center, so this will probably cancel out the majority of the vocals. Be warned though, it's not perfect. You'll probably see similar results for the kick and snare drums.

Another method you could try would be band-stop filtering. Elevayta makes a free VST plugin called "Extra-Boy" that is actually designed to remove vocals from songs using frequency information. You will need software that is capable of playing back audio and processing with VST plugins. You mileage may vary.
