Anyone like em? Fire up The Blades seems to be a real step up, alot of Maiden-ish moments and decent thrashmetal riffing going on. That is, if you can stand the vocals :D

I've been meaning to download it and now you've convinced me to. I loved the last album but found their first to be completely mediocre.

It's great, but the Maiden is nothing new. The new one is just less power, more heavy with a newfound love for thrash.

I loved Advance And Vanquish, but I wasn't so keen on Battlecry Under A Winter Sun. I'll have a look at this new album and see what I think of it.

I'm done my review for it already but I'm unsure of when I'll post it. It comes out on the 28th in Japan or Europe or some ****, but it's not out in North America until the very end of June.

Looking forward to this one, I really liked Advance and Vanquish. Too bad they haven't played an all-ages show here in a year and a half.

Really? They've played one or two here.

Yeah, the last time they played an all-ages show here was in November 2005. They've come back to Saskatchewan a bunch of times since then but they've either skipped Saskatoon and only played Regina, or they came here but played at a 19+ venue.

Listening to it for the first time now. So far I like Advance And Vanquish alot better.

Yeah Advance And Vanquish kills it. This new one lacks the explosiveness of Vanquish. All the new one did was make me want to listen to Vanquish.

I can't wait to hear this. AaV is one of the greatest metal albums in history. This band is phenomenal. Hopefully this is just as good.

I thought this schooled AaV personally. I love the more aggressive songs too, I mean, Infinite Legions starts off as a death/thrash song. Plus, can you get more badass than Assassins of the Light and the fact that it starts off with a can of beer opening and cowbell?

I downloaded Fire up the Blades, listened to the first two songs, and then deleted all of it. =/ Didn't do anything at all for me.

I'm listening to Battlecry Under A Winter Sun online right now and I'm not too sure about it. I dunno about it...kind of a Maiden+King Diamond thing going on. I like the music, but sometimes the vocals get annoying.

Yeah, the vocals are definitely the biggest hurdle. The harsh vocals are continually improving but the high-pitched stuff is always going to be annoying 50% of the time.

If it wasn't for the vocals, I don't see why I would still care for this band. They're great.

The new one was just really uninteresting. It didn't have any of the energy present from Advance. It was just cookiecutter thrash and power metal riffs, didn't have their unique modern old school sound at all.

EDIT: nvm

Good, good album here.

I do agree that there's a more modern touch on the album but I like it, it's a nice change of pace. Plus I still hear all the stuff I used to hear, it's just more varied.

I don't know, the riffs are just incredibly generic and been there done that. It's like they read a "learn how to play thrash" article in guitar world and used that as their main influence.

Whereas in Advance they were, while not really unique, but they had somewhat of their own touch on the style. And it was just much more exciting to listen to, and that was my favorite part of them.

Understood, but I say that for this album. I listen to it more than I ever did AaV, so it's all good.

This. Choruses about orc slaying aren't complete without high singing.
