The Romans kicked the Jews out in the first century AD. 600 years later, the Arabs conquered the region. In 1948, after a century or so of private Jewish migration back into the area, a new state was proclaimed following the UK giving up land under their mandate to these so called Zionists.

And is there any posibility that this will cause WW3?
Smokey D

Probably not.
My history teach said it might happen in like 10 years.

I don't think so. World war 3 needs a lot more than two sides that hate each other.

Not simply because of this. Nobody actually gives a crap enough about either side to start a major war over it. In order for anything like that to happen in the middle east, oil supplies would have to be involved. So, if a country like say Iran was one of the primary aggressors, you'd probably get a big regional conflict out of it but I don't know about world war 3.
Im ****ing scared of Drafts.

There's not going to be a draft. No US politician is willing to commit career suicide by actually getting one going. The soccer moms and hippies of this country would unite and run them out of town.

Total war needs two roughly equal industrial capacities, or its not a war its walkover.

Yeah, but no one's committed enough to start ww3.

The actual area of land that both sides occupy is smaller than some US counties. The only reason it's such a bid deal is because it happens to be considered the "holy land" by three of the world's major religions.
Yeah, but no one's committed enough to start ww3.
I see,
more of a giant civil war?

Anyone here feel there is a way to solve the conflict, I personally think it's impossible I'm sure a lot of you do too, but I'm just seeing if anyone has any ideas, I propose we make Jerusalem a seperate country on it's own, like Vatican city, and the government would be run be half half arabs, half Jews. so if they can't come to an agreement then the UN comes in and makes the decision for them, and for the rest of the country we divide it into two. thats what I'm sayin lol.

since the UN has done such a good job dividing it before...
and everyone adheres to its resolutions

except we have no authority to split the state into smaller factions and the un has about as much authority as a four-year old with a slingshot

haha true there is some faults, but meh, it's the best I can do at the moment lol. Yea is there a thread on the Future of the UN? cuase I think that would be interesting.,
Iscariot
05-28-2007, 07:57 PM
the future of the un is no different than the future of it's predecessor eventually a large scale conflict will bring all eyes upon the inability of the institution and it will be replaced with something "better" that will end up making the same flop

I have no idea what's going to happen to Jerusalem in the future. Both sides want it for a capital. It's ethnically divided, but splitting it in half won't do because of the limited access to holy sites that would entail. Logically they should just share it, but like that's going to happen....

one group should just decide they dont want it anymore. Then the other group won't want it because who wants a city that's already been rejected? and the residents of jerusalem can live in peace while they fight for another city

it's hard to deny that there's the beginning of a drift to a world government though
NAFTA and EU will eventually lead to something like that probably
Smokey D
05-30-2007, 01:04 AM
The EU is distinctly non-world government because it has entry qualifications based on geography.
AmericanWeiner
05-30-2007, 02:57 AM
that doesnt mean it cant be a precursor
Smokey D

Only in a very abstract way like maybe providing a model for some world government institutions.
But the EU can't function as a world government because its self-limiting.

Maybe Western statesmen will, after being seduced by the idea of a "clash of civilizations," form a trans-Atlantic government, dissolving the EU, and create a Western Union. Oh my goodness.. hehe
