I thought stoner / doom would be a good place to talk about these 2 similar bands but theres no interest apparently
I saw Isis on monday night for the first time, I did really enjoy, even though they played a lot of new stuff...what can ya do eh? they played beginning and the end and even celestial!!! which is wierd
I heard in an interview they don't play anything off Celestial but oh well, I was hoping for mostly stuff from Oceanic + Panopticon, they are my favourites
I haven't heard too much of Neurosis, I have Souls at Zero and Sun that never sets, can someone tell me which album to look into next?
hope theres people that wanna talk about these bands! :smoke:

yeah I love them
I can't wait to hear the new Neurosis. It's meant to be awesome. A Sun that Never Sets and The Eye of Every Storm are my favourites though

I agree both bands are awesome. I've been listening to more Neurosis than Isis of late though. Favotite albums: Souls at zero and Enemy of the sun.

I've got Panopticon and In The Absence Of Truth by Isis. Cool stuff.

Get Neurosis' new one, Given to the Rising. It's ****ing fantastic, easily one of their best (and the best they've made in years).

I like both of these bands, and I also saw Isis live about a month and a half ago in Baton Rouge. My personal preference is towards Isis because it seems like they always seem to have that "wall of sound" thing going on. Neurosis is a little more stop and start, and plus, their singer is slightly cheesy. But, like Isis, the vocals aren't the focalpoint of the music, so I look past Neurosis' vocals.
Ahh mate, you were at the Point on Monday? Me too, was a pretty cool show. Where abouts were you standing?
P.S Part Chimp kicked *** too.

I'm wearing an Isis shirt right now.
I like Isis more, but both bands are cool. Must have been a great show.

If you like post metal like Isis and Neurosis, I suggest you look into the band Rosetta.
Definantly. Glad you guys suggested them to me.

my first impression on Isis was that they were pretty boring, haven't gone back to them since though.

pretty good band
I love both bands even though Neurosis kicks Isis *** every day for eternity. I would love to see Neurosis live, that would be amazing. Also, I think the new Neurosis album is their 2nd best effort after The Eye...many may disagree, but what the hell.
Why aren't we talking about Jesu? they are also pretty similar.
AlienEater
05-23-2007, 12:24 PM
Neurosis rule live and Jesu are cool. s/t is their best imo although I haven't heard the first ep
Sleepy
05-23-2007, 12:25 PM
Subterranean Masquerade is pretty cool, although they sound a lot different than just about anything.
EDIT: AlienEater, the ep is better than the self-titled.
Silver is the best Jesu ever.

This thread might as well be renamed "Sex" because all of the bands mentioned and discussed are ace.
Isis is so good, probably my favorite band. Neurosis changed my life in regards to music. Jesu was so good live, the records don't even compare.
Cult of Luna is alright too, although they basically rip off Isis (and although they're heavily influenced by Neurosis, they added a lot of their own elements, so...).

Wrong
And Cult Of Luna is the most unorginal band of all time. I couldn't believe how heavily they wear their influences on their sleeves. Completely a waste of time to listen to, as you could just listen to the bands they copy, who do it much better.

Isis' new cd is better than Neurosis' by a mile. At least Isis can continue to evolve their sound.

They've sounded the same since about 2000, excluding Neurosis And Jarboe of course. Not that it's a terribly bad thing, but I still like Isis better.

Jesu was so good live, the records don't even compare.
Seriously? Isis stole the show when I saw them and Jesu play. There was nothing amazing from Jesu, other than their vocalist appearing to be autistic.

Neurosis are utter legends, ISIS are very close to being just as good. I prefer ISIS though. Panopticon is flawless.

I own most of the albums of the bands being discussed here and I can honestly say they don't totally rip off other bands. They just sound similar since all of these bands have similar sounds.
Even though Isis are not a Neurosis rip off like some people might state, they do kick Isis ***.
Cult Of Luna are really bland, I like 1 album...the rest is meh.

and Red Sparowes > Isis > Neurosis IMO. I like the instrumental more ambient feel of Red Spaorwes but that gets into the 2 differentr genres subject.

Why the **** are we even stressing the Red Sparowes in the same sentence as Isis and Neurosis? they have nothing in common...at all.

Neurosis seems to be a darker version of isis. Isis seems to shift in between i the "good" and the "bad"
Neurosis likes too follow up the dark riffs with thick ambiance.
My god they're both awesome.
Phototropic

I love Isis more so than Neurosis because its like one mass lumbering beast thats constantly evolving, Neurosis are up and down, too frantic, even though their soundscapes are good, they're not amazing and perfectly formed like stuff off Oceanic or Panopticon
Red Sparrowes, both albums = awesome
i can put them on and just trip out like mad to them, takes me to another place, havent got a favourite out of the 2 yet
