I don't hang around the forums really, just the reviews, so if this thread is "illegal", act accordingly.
Anyway, I sometimes have a hard time finding new music that I really like. I haven't found anything really interesting for a while.
Here is a short list of what I have recently started to dig into:
Becoming the Archetype
Monstrosity
Protest the Hero
The Red Chord*
Deicide*
Insomnium
* = not sure how I feel about them
I have been listening to this type of stuff for a while, so throw out any suggestions besides black metal (sorry, just not a fan).
And once again, feel free to delete the thread if this isn't "good enough" for a thread.
Thanks for any feedback.

You may want to check out the Daily Upload we have in R&M. You recieve 10 albums a day in your email and they are mainly rock and metal, but you get some other stuff like jazz, punk, blues, alternative, classical etc. in there. Definitely worth looking into in my opinion.
You may like At the Gates, Nevermore, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Botch, Between the Buried and Me and In Flames. Just a few to get you started.

I'm not new to heavy metal btw, don't let my horrible choice of a username fool you.
All those accounted for.
I should point out that I mainly looking for death metal these days more than anything. Go for more obscurity like some of the bands I listed.

Protest the Hero is still better than just about every band mentioned thus far.
Maybe some Slipknot?

There aren't really any acts similar to PTH other than maybe Thrice/Propagandhi with their old ****. But whatever, here are some general recommendations based on what I think you'll like, based on those artists and your taste in general.
Autumn Leaves - As Night Conquers Day (Melo-Death, not unlike Insomnium, though there's a lot more \m/ and a lot less stfu)
Decapitated - Winds of Creation (awesome thrash influenced death metal, a lot like Monstrosity. Snare is annoying, but whatever)
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor (One of the best progressive death metal album's you'll hear)
Arghoslent - Incorrigible Bigotry (Incredibly racist but the riffs will make you realize why this album is damn near unmatched death metal. Melodic without pussyfooting, and seriously, the leads are like Iron Maiden on speed)
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (Crushing death metal)
Burst - Origo (Is it Metalcore? Sludge? Whatever, it's good)
Burning Inside - The Eve of the Entities (The drumming is unbelievable and it's tech death that wont make you want to kill yourself)
Capharnaum - Fractured (Awesome techy death metal right out of the florida scene. Yeah, Heafy does vocals, but they're not nearly as gay as Trivium's. I guarantee it's worth a listen)
Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies (A more badass Red Chord)
okay im bored that's it, and I only made it to D!

Just....go away.
Chill, no need to take everything so seriously...
Try these albums:
Decapitated - Winds of Creation
The Locust - New Erections
The Faceless - Akeldama
And just look into related bands from there. Decapitated is sort of old-school death, but still really well done, not as sloppy as some of their predecessors. The Locust is spastic, superspeed grindcore with a lot of electronic elements, and The Faceless are sort of a Tech-Death-Core band that's really enjoyable, and I hardly ever listen to metal.

And if you have "Clients", throw it out and get "Fused..."

You just have to listen*, it's not really fit for background music until you're used to what's there. I'd say that goes with most albums though.
*It sounds like I'm patronizing you but I swear I'm not
Josh D.
05-22-2007, 07:45 PM
No, it's not patronizing, I figured that's the problem. Later, I'm gonna throw on my headphones and take a closer "look" at it.
Also, Decapitated isn't too bad.

Winds of Creation is the perfect headbanging album. I mean, I don't headbang because I'm not a faggot, but if I did I would do it to that album. Their other stuff is meh, especially the new one.

I'm a mike patton fanboy too and Fantomas have one good album.
The S/T has like three "pages" worth listening to on a regular basis, same for the latest, and Delirium Cordia is hardly music. I'd hardly consider Lombardo going nuts while Mike Patton makes puke noises to be "rearranging the rules of songwriting".
