There aren't any bands as progressive as those sorry

The only thing progressive about Opeth is how each album they release gets progressively worse.

Uh. Obviously you haven't heard Blackwater Park?

Steve Wilson's production job alone makes it one of the best albums ever.

I'm not really a fan of DT but their drummer is incredible!

I just like how every album is a variation on a theme, and it all makes for a completely unique experience. Train of Thought is my favourite because it's soooooo heavy.

I've heard it.

And just to not be a bastard, you might want to check out Disillusion's Back To Times Of Splendor. It might be up your alley. Some Grayceon too.

I know dude.

You have to look past the horrible vocals in Grayceon, the music is very interesting. Listen to In To The Deep, the first song is actually from a demo.

They're too progressive for my mind to comprehend.

i don't really think they are that progressive. they're like opeth in the fact that they're able to take alot of influences and blend them into something that is accessible and really interesting musically. plus i love the female singer. :thumb: she is fine.

Nepenthe
05-22-2007, 12:58 AM
My mind is only able to comprehend 25 genres thrown together at once, anything over fries it.

Sorry, I just listened to a Tool song so I might be a little slow, my brain is still attempting to catch up with what it just heard.

pixiesfanyo
05-22-2007, 01:02 AM
why wouldn't you like tool?

Nepenthe
05-22-2007, 01:03 AM
Every time I listen to them it takes me 10 minutes to get my brain back to normal from the extreme amounts of progressiveness it just experienced.

the tribal drumming and fibonacci sequence combined with the intense polyrhythms and synch-ups are too powerful for his simpleton mind.

Nepenthe
05-22-2007, 01:05 AM
Yeah that. See it's so progressive that I don't even know what the words that describe it mean.

pixiesfanyo
05-22-2007, 01:07 AM
Thats all stuff that Tool denies.

They're just a rock band man. A really talented rock band. Jones is a great simple guitarist. Justin is a effect pro. Carey is a talented drummer. and Maynard is an expert lyricist/

Nepenthe
05-22-2007, 01:08 AM
lyricist?

pixiesfanyo
05-22-2007, 01:09 AM
yeah. he is a poet.

Nepenthe
05-22-2007, 01:11 AM
I just had to go check dictionary.com for lyricist, that's all. And yeah, now I know what you mean. He is a good lyricist, I feel that I can really relate to what he is talking about, because like, I just get it. Yknow? It just makes perfect sense to me, like he wrote them for me or something.

pixiesfanyo
05-22-2007, 01:13 AM
I guess. I just think he has a way with words.

You can't deny Danny Carey is a great drummer though!

Indeed.

Anyway.

Agalloch, but you may not be interested in it due to the excessive repetitiveness of the whole concept, but the albums have a certain feel to them that I don't know. I like them. Closer sounding to Opeth. Yeah.

Gordian Knot, more in the masturbative technical performance corner.

Gwynbleidd, just like Opeth but the same riff in two songs.

Jaguares, but then again mexicanos.

KTU.

Mirrorthrone, Novembre.

Orphaned Land for progressive death metal WITH MAD AWESOME MIDDLE EASTERN INFLUENZEZ.

Ulver.
