View Full Version : who is the South going to vote for in the 08 presidential elections anyway??

Think about it: the top Republican candidates are Mitt Romney (a Massachusetts Mormon), John McCain and Rudy Giuliani (both more left-leaning than the average GOP politician, and Giuliani is pro-life and has multiple divorces).

And as for the Democrats, well most Southerners seem to impulsively vote against them no matter what. But even in this election, could the Democrats carry any state in the South with a black or female candidate? Maybe if John Edwards gets the nomination, but I don't know.

So discuss who you think would be a good choice for most Southern voters to pick. Since they all seem to have this bizarre hive-mind, the person most likely to curry their favor might be a big factor in the primaries.

As a southerner i'd have to go with Rudy Giuliani so far, though no one has really proven themselves yet.

And you can go screw yourself with that hive-mind comment :p

north carolina has been a red state in presidential terms and a blue state in governor terms for a while now, wouldn't totally surprise me if we went blue this year for once

i still have yet to see a viable candidate on either side?

what kind of image does that make for Dems?
When even at the Reps lowest support ratio, they still cant find a candidate worthy of a vote :)

Stop looking for viable ones. They give you some choices and you pick the one that at least matches 10% of your ideals as long as he/she is a white male.

If none of the white males match your ideals at all, it doesn't matter. You still have to pick one of them.

so we just keep doing what we have in the past? :)

I think its time for a little change myself, but neither side has options we desire or hold as important

We need some moderate candidates to remove all the special interest wild left AND right chess pieces in play currently. But we all know in the long run, even though the Dems favor alt lifestyle, poor, minorities and high taxes, they only do this for the millions of votes they hold, not because they actually represent those values. So its a no win, at least IMO.

2 things wrong with this post.
- You seem to think the Dems are radical liberals. Maybe they are by American standards, but if you applied their positions to the letter in another country you'd be considered smack in the centre. A little left-leaning on some issues, a little right-leaning on others, but they're very far from pro-poor anti-family heterosexual-hating commies.

- There's a difference between being "pro" something and "anti" it's opposite. Saying that the Dems favour the poor is a lot like saying pro-choicers think abortions should be imposed on mothers. Wanting to allow gay marriage doesn't make you anti-family either.

Why would the viability of the democratic candidate depend on the non-viability of the republican candidate?

beleive it or not, i am taking actions in my area to run for a small local office

we have land disputes with several cities trying to privatise local road building due to low funds and mismanagement of resources and i am sick of it, so i am going for a chair position in a board that makes these decisions

I'll see ya in 2030, lol :)

I wonder if Atman would sponser me too? :p

Why would the viability of the democratic candidate depend on the non-viability of the republican candidate?
why would someone go to a BMW lot and roll out in a Hundai?
because the car lot only had used, broke down BMW's and he/she needed a car

*Dont forget, I am a registered Democrat, beleive it or not

but this was when they stood for more middle ground, blue collar people, not the current platform

AGREED

we need campaign reform, an end to partisan politics and parties so we can try to mend this great split our country has allowed the two party's to rip open

compromise

i don't know if this guy will be popular in the south (certainly more so than guliani of mccain), but i see this guy appealing to a wide base because he's anti-war. he seems pretty legit to me.
