Say I like a band and notice that it's on a cool label I recognize. Maybe you like one artists on Victory Records. Little do you know, you'll also like every other artist on that label. If you're a sputnik user, how do you browse that content and be able to read awesome reviews of any recent album put out by a label? You integrate browsing by label into the site. What do you guys think? It'd take a lot of work to edit albums to include labels but I think it'd be worth it.

Tbh not enough people would use it to justify mx using his time to code it.

This, tbh I probably wouldn't even use it.

It would be cool, and I would use it. Definitely would be a lot of work though

i don't think sputnik's database is extensive enough for this to really be effective

Browsing by label would be nice. Browsing by album name would be nicer.

Pretty much.
It's a great idea though but I don't think we're there yet.

I like the idea, but I agree with what most people said about it maybe not working.

I like this idea. Even if it wouldn't work at the moment, it's something I'd like to use at some point.
We would first need to add a label field for albums. I'm not sure how many people would fill it out

I'd support it and fill it out.

I'd help in my own way. This seems like a great idea.

Wouldn't this be extremely complicated to do with things like labels no longer existing, label merges, artists with multiple labels over the years, or ones on subsidiaries of larger labels etc.
edit: i didn't says labels enough in this post sorry

I don't see why the site isn't "big" enough to merit this service. If anything we need to start early, otherwise there will be a massive barrier to getting this system up and running because of all the initial work required doing tedious inputting. Also, mx, I think people would fill it out. It's easier than formatting all of the track names and downloading a picture and then uploading it. Takes less time.

You wouldn't link to the official label main page. Maybe there would be a link out of an internal page but the idea is there would be a simple page for each label with active artists, non-active artists, and albums released by artist while on label. It's pretty simple. Also to clarify all that other stuff, you just make one label per CD. Each CD is released on one label (if an imprint say the imprint not the parent label obviously) unless there's a difference between a release on CD vs. Vinyl (think CTTS on Robotic Empire for CD and Hyperrealist for vinyl). For online only or independent releases there is no label so no browsing. These are not real problems you have when you just consider albums as released and don't try to put one band on one label for a whole career.

Besides when you are holding your CD or ahem... getting them from the internet, the label is pretty much reachable.
Say, from Amazon.com.

I would use it and help with it definitely.

The whole point is to be able to automatically see a list of all bands and albums and link to bands inside sputnik to read our own reviews. It's not just knowing the label but being able to read reviews on sputnik that have label in common.
Why must you think the way you do?

I don't think it would be as difficult as everybody thinks, but it'd have to be a drop-down menu system like band names otherwise you'll get 100 permutations of every indie label, but I don't see why it'd be particularly difficult if the right preparations were made.

Lots of albums are released on multiple labels, smaller labels that aren't imprints have deals with majors to release their bigger albums (Fueled By Ramen and Atlantic / Drive-Thru and Geffen) and international releases too. Problems that can be solved, but it'd need to be something more secure than just having a box to fill in. To work properly, there'd probably need to be a database of labels drawn up before the feature was even implemented.
