View Full Version : Staff reviews on main page

I've heard a lot of complaints recently that there aren't enough staff reviews on the main page. Right now there are 2, and they get bumped down rather fast. But most staff reviews get placed in the top bar if they are new releases.

We have a few options:

1) No changes
2) Add 2 more slots for staff reviews, bringing the total to 4. Keep everything else the same.
3) Swap the position of staff and user reviews. The staff reviews would have to adopt a vertical format, from a user interface perspective. If this occured, approved reviews would be listed in this slot as well. Essentially, staff & approved reviews would replace the user reviews where they are now, and user reviews would be moved lower.
4) Remove the staff section, add a STAFF tag to the existing user reviews section

Let me know what you think.

I've been reviewing new releases almost exclusively (ie: within the last 3 months) and not a single one has been put up there.

I say 2 or 3.

Hah, I wasn't asking for a handout or anything I'm just saying. I'll stop whining now, I'm mostly just bored. I love you Jeremy, seriously.

In all seriousness though, this site's actually given me a shitload of experience and had a surprising hand in me getting into a pretty huge journalism program, early acceptance style.

That's awesome, Cocaine. This site helped me get interested in journalism as well. I submitted a bunch of reviews I wrote here into my school's newspaper teacher and I got accepted. I'm thinking of pursuing it as a legitimate career.

Yeah, this site helped solidify that for me. I always had the idea but then I got more interested from this. Obviously it goes further than essentially reviewing your mail (note: i start getting cds from The End this week!) but still!

I like it the way it is tbqmfh

besides I don't think the staff review enough to bother changing it

They review a lot. And in any case, there's a reason they're staff and should be noticed.

People over profit, down with corporate America! I think #2 is a fine alternative, but I don't like 3 or 4 at all.

#2 will work the best.

Although there's a lot of emphasis on this being very much a user-driven site, staff reviews are always high quality and good for casual browsers to see and should have an equal number as featured reviews. Equality and all that.

It's funny, I reviewed the most when I had the most schoolwork. It was a form of procrastination.

I review loads during the Summer and end up forgetting the site during school time.

I think it's fine how it is. I wouldn't mind #2, but I don't really find it necessary.

Whatever and such.

2 seems like a good option.

3 wouldn't work because there's too many non-approved reviews.

#2 if anything
