Hey everyone,
I recently made a thread about getting a midi controller, but someone responded telling me the one I was going to get could only be played into a computer. I've decided to go a few steps up and just get the Korg Micro-X synth. If anyone here has used it, or owns it, what do you think of it? How's the learning curve, will it be easy for a beginner (to synth/keyboard, I've played other instruments my whole life) to get used to? Basically I'm just trying to see what you guys think of this keyboard overall. As always, thanks for any help.

Thanks

Watch the demo on the Korg site. I've never played one, but it seems incredibly expensive for a 25-key instrument. As a controller it appears to be pretty good, with a nice LCD screen to give you feedback as to exactly what control messages you're sending on what midi channel. However, with only a few assignable knobs on the unit, I think the price is quite ridiculous if you want it mainly as a controller. The synth sounds are up to your preference. I personally don't like how it sounds, but I can understand that one might. It's very powerful and modern, and delivers polished sounds without having to tweak anything or add outboard effects.

I'd also make sure to find out if this synth has smaller keys than usual... Smaller keys is the reason I wouldn't buy a MicroKORG.

Oh, read Harmony Central reviews. And also look at the Alesis Micron, a small but extremely powerful synth for a very low price.

I ended up getting it. The keys are full size but it is a little bit restricting only having two octaves. Otherwise it's a great synth for the price.

Nice.
Don't some Korgs have an X-Y Pad? >
