Overall.. I like the kit

However there are a few things Im a little dissapointed. The hardware looks a little cheap to be honest. Even my Tama Rocksta had better quality hardware on it.

Kit sounds nice none the less. it still needs a little more tweaking and a few more things need to be added on like two more boomstands... and my DW Piccolo tom and a Double Pedal !

QUESTIONS... AWAY!!!

Did for a little while.. Not used to having a tom there anymore..

Basically the kit will be like this when im done.

8" dw piccolo tom and 10" saturn as rack toms.... ofset'ed to the left..

Ride in the position of the 12" tom..

14" floor and MAYB a 16" as well

12" or aux snare on the left.

2 crashes.. china.. ride.. splash and a max stax

AND last but not least.. a double pedal :)

I lol'd when you said the hardware was crap. To be honest, look at the company...

Looking good. I prefered the look of the rockstars, but those must sound lovely, especially with that walnut.

 O right.

He said a bit cheap-looking, not crap. Mapex hardware works fine, does it's job, even if it isn't the most amazing in the world.

Lovely kit though, even though I'm not a huge fan of sparkley finishes, but looks good.

Tama make some excellent hardware. Their RoadPro stuff are tanks.
I like Mapex's hardware, maybe not the most sturdy but I dont need anything really beefy.

Ive got a mapex heavy duty boomstand and it hasnt budged an inch ever!

My roadpro however ive notcied has been slipping ever so slightly over a period of 1 hour on the teethless tilter at the top.....

i loooooooooove that!

My roadpro hardware is solid as a rock. However, I'm sure all top end hardware must be solid at the prices it sold at

Mapex hardware works fine

yay for rubber "felts" that literally makes the cymbals bounce around when you hit it.

Cool kit ian. Though were no longer cobra clutch buddy's :(

no...

My mapex toms shake less than any tama i've ever tried...I'll give it to you that they lose points with the tranni system but the pedals are awesome...

Mapex has easily the best mounting hardware i've ever used (and even on M Birch's)

Amazing. I love that, one of my fav. Mapex ever for sure.

CombatWombat3
05-09-2007, 09:26 PM
Honestly, I don't see the problem with toms shaking. I'd almost see that as a good thing, because that means that they're not super restricted/can't resonate. Maybe I'm wrong though...

Sweet kit, I like the finish :thumb: I always thought that tom mount slider thingy on the bass drum was a little corny, but it actually works pretty slick.

If I'm right, the saturns have some gimmick of a free floating bass drum tom mount thing. You should be able to move the whole thing along.

It's kinda like the thing on the Tama SC performers that's been there for about 7 years and works flawlessly.

Hey, i was just creating an analogy.

slickrick1688
05-13-2007, 12:05 PM
No, the tom mount on the bass drum doesnt slide. At least on mine i cant see how. I believe that part of it is kind of "attached" to the lugs. Much like how the mounts for the toms are attached.

Hey, i was just creating an analogy.

but it was obviously a Mapex hating Tama worship analogy, which is just as obnoxious and old and biased.

...But Tama are the only company i know of who do that...

Yeah exactly what I found out.. the bracket that the tom holder is attached to is wedged between the bassdrum and the lugs. so I dont see it being possible to move the tom holder :S

So, wait, are you saying this kit used to belong to Calhoun?, or it's just the same finish that he has?

I had one of those kick pedals for a little while. I thought it was pretty good. Nothing to complain about.

ian1988
05-16-2007, 03:29 AM
Will Calhoun used it on his clinic while he was in New Zealand.. Only bits which I didnt buy was the 16" tom and the 18" bass drum

Wow, I can honestly say that I've never seen (or don't recall seeing) a yellow wrap/finish before. That looks amazing. Beautiful kit. Makes me strongly consider my next kit as a yelllowwww one.
