Which is the better line?

haven't really played on either one, but I'll say 302s just from the observations I've gathered from other forum members. Don't have any 1st person observations, sorry.

Eh, friend is buying a used kit and getting both, and I don't know which line is "better."

If he has a choice Paiste's PST5's are insanely good for a beginner line.

Beginner cymbals are beginner cymbals. You're probably only going to use them for practice, am I right? If that's the case, I'd go with the 302's because they're cheaper. Put the money aside you saved by buying the 302's and save up for pro cymbals.

To be honest I'd rather play air.

Don't overbuy on beginner cymbals. Maybe hats and a crash, maybe two. Play those for a while until you get your ear for what you like and dislike, then pour some cash into what you know you will like.

ZXT's are the absolute worst piece of crap there ever was.

Ok maybe not ever. But they're really, REALLY bad. Go with the Paistes.

Some ZXTs aren't bad. I actually prefer my ZXT fast splash over my A Custom splash.

For beginner, I would go PST5, I have only heard good comments on those

i would stay clear of ZBT, ZXT, I havent heard the ZHTs, i just dont dig Zildjians entry level cymbals (I own some too)

I can agree with this, the splashes arent that bad

Well, if you're in school and around 14 and want other 14 year old drummer friends. and if you wanna be cool. Then I hear zildjian is the way forward...

I try to tell people, especially this kid a few years younger, that just because its zildjian, doesnt mean its great. Thats why when I buy a k custom dark crash and he says Im getting ZXTs Ill say yeah, you get them and you can have zildjian, or you save and get quality zildjian.

^^^ I had that problem before.

Apparently some dudes ZBT was way better than my AAXPlosion cause it was zildjian.

Lol.

I know this one kid who had Solars and was like "I hate them, they sound like crap....I wanna get some ZXT/ZBT's"

Having started out on 302's and having played ZXT's I'd say the 302's hands down.
302's although clearly beginner and crappy sounding....they're bearable. The ZXT's were disgusting!

I have 302's

The ride is okay, the hats are okay, the crash is a bit weak, but then again, aren't all beginner crashes.

They're easily the best beginner cymbals i've played.

302's.

302s

yeah all beginner crashes are quite weak.
however, as bizarre as it sounds, I actually like my 101 crash because I can crash it in jazz and ride it in metal.

Can't you get some Wuhans instead?

dairyairman

anyone thinking of buying non-china wuhans should test them first or at least listen to some sound samples. they have a unique semi-trashy sound that not everyone likes.

Wuhan splashes are awesome as well. Everyone I know who has one loves it, like me :)

Neither. They both suck, although the ZXT line does have 1 good cymbal; the transformer. 302s arent bad, but Alphas are a lot better.

haha.

you can add your first "hater" to that list.
although it is good for the price, i can't stand the trashiness of my 12".

I agree with you for the most part.

I modified a ZXT crash and it sounds "OK" now, but they sound so metallicy to me (Which I don't like)

Sorry for taking so long to reply. With his set he is getting a full set of ZXT's AND 302's, both used. It's not which one to buy, it's which would be the "better" line. He'll have both. It's crazy.

I, on the other hand, have the horrible:

14 B8 Hats
16 B8 Thin crash
18 B8 Think crash
12 Wuhan China with huge crack (FREE!)

The amazing:
20 AAX Dry Ride

Saving for:
AA Medium Hats
16 Avedis Thin Crash
18 Avedis Thin Crash

Keep the 302's, sell the ZXT's and save for something nice.
