Before I go on, I'd like to repost the forum rules.

Does that include me reporting the current local climate? The tension between 'us' and 'them', whether that is turks, muslims, etc? The fact that I don't know anyone who would bat an eyelid if they never saw another turk as long as they lived? This is not hateful, this is the reality that what were once little jokes, not meant to be offensive at all, are spiralling into people gathering at friends' houses seemingly only to discuss the latest abuse they got from turkish people. muslims are slowly but surely getting on everyone's backs as well, but it is safe to say that we are trying our hardest to be tolerant, and understand that the vast majority of muslims are tolerant, 'normal' people. saying that, it was quite disappointing the other week standing outside a big mosque in Whitechapel whilst asking for directions to see a group of orthodox muslims in full religious dress giving my girlfriend dirty looks and shouting obscenities at us.

**** it, I can't go on any more, its not just me being disaffected by the government, or radical muslims, or unfavourable immigrants, or anything else. Its being disaffected with everything.

However, back to the thread. As someone else said, immigration has been hugely beneficial to the UK, who have brought some very skilled workers. I actually work with two Indian blokes and they are the most hard working and honest people working there. Most people in the UK don't have any idea what it is like to be poor so they become complacent so of course foreigners are going to take their jobs, that is the whole point of globalisation. Yes there are a few people who come here and screw the system, but British born and bred people also screw the system by claiming benefits illegally. Education is the key, the western world used to have that advantage, but now there are a lot of smart people coming from all over the world so western society is becoming less competitive while India and China are rapidly catching up and could surpass Americas global dominance.
