I Play a 35" 5 string, I want to string it with EADGC strings, I have the individual C string (Rotosound SBL30) and it fits when I hold it againt the neck (just), I want to put light strings on (I'm trying out different setups right now, currently have a heavy BEADG set on) but the only 4 string set Rotosound does in XL scale is regular.

I assume that a regular 'long scale' set (which is designed for a 34" bass isn't it?) will *just* fit then, since the C string does; I'd just like to check with anyone that uses Rotos though that the silk does go to the same point on every string.

Also, do 'long scale' sets generally fit onto 35" basses, or is is variable depending on the brand/model of string?

Thanks.

Long scale usually means 35". Should fit no problem.

If long scale fits 35", what's the point of extra-long scale strings?

In my experience long scale means 34". Some long scale strings will fit a 35, some won't. Best thing is to go to a music store with your bass and take the string out of the package to check. Then say "thanks, now I know what to order online..."

*shrugs* I've never bought strings that say long or XL so I assumed long meant longer than usual. My bad.

With my rotos the silk doesn't go to the same place for every string.

Thanks, do the strings get 'shorter' (ie. less usable string before the silk) as they get thicker, or longer?

D'Addario does 6 string XL sets. Great strings. And if you get the 6 string set, you'll have both the B and the C

I use long scale strings on my 35" bass, and a guitar string for the C. They all work fine

On mine it's just random:

The silk will go where it wants, depending on the gauge of the string, how far the peg is from the nut, and how much of the string you cut off at the end.

But I think if you're that anal about it, either

1) don't buy strings with silk ends
2) remove it
