i know this is going to seem obvious but dont just play what the other bassist is playing, so many bassists in my school have 'battles' or duets with one another and all they play is 'Carousel' together

you have two instruments, make the most of it

id recommend that you have differing tones somehow. maybe one of you use an effect of some sort.

Word. Eqing will be important. Knowing who's holding it down and who's leading will be as well. Blah. Have fun. I've tried this a few times. Tried with 4 basses, totally fell apart. Mainly because 2 of the bassists were flakes.

Different tones, and perhaps different techniques? like one guy goes finger style while the other guy is slapping, or the one guy is tapping while the other guy is fingerstying it up....somethign like that would be cool.

Check out the band DOS. It's Mike Watt from the minutemen and Kira Rossler from black flag. 2 punk bassists doing a not so punk project. it's not amazing, but its the a pretty good example of how 2 basses can be done right.

Write harmonies together, add soprano vocals and make it a power metal song.

My band has two bassists and we have got some pretty bad burn for it
(mainly the dicks who say 4 strings is worse than 6 because theres not as many) but we mix it up by swapping lead and rythem in songs and stuff throwing in two seperate melodies one low end one high etc.
