I am a drummer and I want to also start playing bass. I know how to read music, and where the notes are on the bass. I don't want bass to be my main instrument, but I want to start playing and exploring it. What are some good books to work out of for bass, and do yall' have any advice for a beginner or beginner bass around 600?

I don't have much experience with that price range, but I applaud you for actually spending enough to get a nice bass. So many people come on here wanting a bass and a gig-worthy amp for like $200, and that just doesn't work.

Are you also in need of amplification?

Indeed, and it would also help if you told us what type of bass you want e.g. classic Fender style or something a little more modern. And maybe also what genre of music you'd mainly play with it.

I'll find a used bass around that price at Guitar Center, but more importantly what practice books do yall' reccomend?
