Ok, so I accidently downloaded this while looking for Your Favourite Weapon on some download sites. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to listen to it because I thought it was disrespectfull to Brand New, or that it woul ruin my appreciation of their newest album.

But it didn't, I'm on track 3 so far and it's actualyl really good, and I wonder why these songs didn't make the final cut?

ps. I also have a Brand New (Jesse Lacey) cover of Two Headed Boy. :D

I have the cover too, not a patch on the original but a great cover.

Demos are okay but TDAG is a lot better.

Yeah, for some reason I always thought Brand New would like Neutral Milk Hotel....

I really have to disagree with everyone on this. I ****ing love the demos, I think that every song on it is good, really good, and The devil and god is great too, but that has a flaw and thats the instrumentals, but to me brand new is my favorite band so therefore I choose not to compare on album to the other. in my opinion YFW=Deja=Fight off your demons= The devil and god

the demos are incredible, I was shocked at the fact that untitled 3 and 7 weren´t on the album.

One of the demos has a real jazzy feel to it, it's quite weird fro Brand New.

Untitled 3 is the best their for me.

I love Untitled 2, it has a Smiths feel to it.

I really like Untitled 1. I'm constantly playing it on guitar. I like the lyrics to Untitled 3 better than I like it's later form's lyrics (Coca-Cola). Untitled 7 is really great to me, and I can't really figure out why.

Ganondorf
05-02-2007, 12:44 PM
Yeah I like Untitled 7 aswell. Do you think it's kinda disrespectfull to listen to these demos as the band were obviously upset about them?

I guess it might be, but really the band should be thankful that fans care so much about the band as to want to listen to these demos and everything else they have ever touched.

Untitled 5 is really awesome. But Untitled 3 is still my personal favorite of the demo's.

Well at first they were upset, and it may have changed the path of the new record. But touring last summer they've embraced it when fans were singing those songs they've played. So it's all graaaavy.

PS - I want that cover of Two Headed Boy

I personally liked the demos better than TDAG.
And don't worry about it being disrespectful, the band leaked the demos.

I'm not buying this based on what Jesse and the rest of the band have said. They were angry about people hearing their work that wasn't done yet and said several songs weren't on the album because of the leak that they wanted on the album.

1 had great lyrics

3 was powerful

5 had a whack build up

7 was jazzy and cool as all hell

9 was incredible

it seems i'm a sucker for odd numbers :p

If Untitled was demo #7, Welcome To Bangkok was #5 and Archers was kept exactly the same as #9 it would've been the perfect album.

I'm not buying this based on what Jesse and the rest of the band have said. They were angry about people hearing their work that wasn't done yet and said several songs weren't on the album because of the leak that they wanted on the album.

A few months before they leaked, it said on their website update that they where planning on putting some stuff online so that people could see what they where working on. Shortly after the leak, this was removed.

At the Atlanta show last summer Jesse introduced Sowing Season by saying, "This song was stolen from us, but we don't mind" and he laughed about it.

Also their record company wouldn't let them put some of the songs on the album, which is why I'd imagine that they leaked them.

But then you read what Jesse says in the bands interview just before the release of The Devil and God...

“ For me it was different. It had me pretty down for a while. No one likes to show their creation in mid-process, and those songs weren't done. They were like blueprints. Just the plan, right? It put me in a state where I was under the impression that those songs had been wasted or something--that we had to go and write new things because those had been heard. Now, in retrospect, I want those songs to be on the album and many of them aren't, and I'm probably more to blame for that than anyone. This record already feels incomplete to me without those tracks and probably will forever. ”

— Jesse Lacey

and BANG! Conflicting messages.

I see what your saying, but the record company would probably have a fit if they said on their own site that they leaked there own songs. I suppose there is no way to know for sure, but my theory is they leaked them themselves.

Not really, plenty of bands leak their own songs and it was my understanding that after cutting short Deja Entendu and seeing how much of a big success it was, the record company gave BN a lot of freedom with this once (hence such the long wait).

From what I've read and heard of them on radio interviews, Jesse seems pretty pissed that what got out did.

I wish they'd release the demo song titles now.

Dinosawesome
05-08-2007, 09:36 PM
As far as I know, the working titles were

1. Untitled
2. Morrissey
3. Brothers
4. Untitled
5. Cleanser
6. (Mamas) Luca
7. Fork and Knife
8. Yeah
9. The Edge Takes Over For Vin

Luca is such a solid song. I love it. Just thought I'd say that.

Ganondorf

Luca is one of my least favourites on that album, it's still quite good but in terms of an acoustic song that builds up, Limousine destroys it.

Dinosawesome
05-09-2007, 05:39 AM
Limousines breakdown goes for much longer than it could've, though it is still an awesome song (hell the whole album is amazing).

The bridge of Luca ("you never worked well with our group") is both lyrically and vocally the most stirring musical moment I've heard in years. Just beautifully written, performed and produced.

Luca is I think my least favorite brand new song out of all the brand new songs, besides the instrumentals, And I think Im the only person who thinks that, I dont know, the song just doesn´t click with me, and I dont know why. I think the demos are really underrated, I really like the lyric in No. 2 that says ´if theres any justice in heaven then god wont let me in, he´ll lock the gates and take my weekend pass away´ thats wicked cool, the demos I think are really awesome, sound and lyrics. And I hope to god that they really do release them, and the breakdowns in Untitled 5 are so awesome ´tear you up, and take what you love, and burn it down, and burn it down, you swear to build, we swear to come, and burn it down, burn it down´
