Debout, les damnés de la terre
Debout, les forçats de la faim
La raison tonne en son cratère
C'est l'éruption de la fin
Du passé faisons table rase
Foules, esclaves, debout, debout
Le monde va changer de base
Nous ne sommes rien, soyons tout
C'est la lutte finale
Groupons-nous, et demain
L'Internationale
Sera le genre humain

I forgot it was May Day.

Don't you mean you can't work, since you are on disability, sucking at the socialist teat of the state?

Oh yeah, that too. And I thought an elitist like you would remind me how ridiculously high I've set my goals with an IQ of a miserable 121, to obtain a bachelor in philosophy and finally acquire a J.D. to begin my law practice? But maybe I don't give you enough credit.

Der Übermensch

I won't make fun of your dreams... just the awsome irony of you're circumstances :)

And I'm not an elitist, just an occasional asshole :chug:

Illegal immigrants take their jobs bc they can do it for so much cheaper. THey undermine the power of unions

Reaganista
05-03-2007, 01:24 AM
unions that dont gladly embrace illegal immigrants and any other proletarians are not real representatives of the people and morally no different from medieval guilds or monopolist corporations imo

I beg to differ. Unions aren't representatives of the people... they are represntatives of a certain group of people who work in a specific skill area, and works to protect those people from negative competition, which is what illegal immigrants are.

maybe a craft union

which is deplorable

Der Übermensch
05-03-2007, 01:56 PM
Any union's purpose is Job Protection. Illigal immigration is a threat to those jobs...

pedro durruti
05-03-2007, 08:20 PM
But aren't unions, at least initially, meant to protect the working class, no matter where they come from?

Der Übermensch
05-03-2007, 11:15 PM
No, they were meant to protect those who were working.

pedro durruti
05-03-2007, 11:17 PM
Which included, and continues to include, immigrants.

Reaganista
05-04-2007, 02:38 AM
No, they were meant to protect those who were working.

which is of course why labor unions were the first providers of unemployment insurance

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 03:14 AM
For members who had lost their job... not people who were potential encroachers on their employment...

Which included, and continues to include, immigrants.
Yes... Legal ones though.

Reaganista
05-04-2007, 11:14 AM
For members who had lost their job... not people who were potential encroachers on their employment...
well that's right

except for the part where they had to have a job to be a member

and the rest too

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 11:25 AM
Trade Unions have ALWAYS been restrictive in their membership.

Would unions provide benefits for scabs?

No. And thats what illegal immigrants are comparable to.

Reaganista
05-04-2007, 11:37 AM
Trade Unions have ALWAYS been restrictive in their membership.

no

only the awful ones that arent real representatives of labor

No. And thats what illegal immigrants are comparable to.
um

only if they crossed a picket line

Der Übermensch

Show me one labot union that ANYONE can join.

only if they crossed a picket line
Illegal immigrants are willing to work harder, for less pay... often under minimum wage. By virtue of their status, they are a threat to legal workers. Illegals don't need to cross a picket line to be a scab... they scab all the time.

pedro durruti
05-04-2007, 08:14 PM
Unions should help them though, and prevent them from becoming scabs, because they are laborers who need work just as desparately as national laborers, and probably more given their circumstances as an illegal.

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 09:08 PM
But, given the fact they are illegal, they can't join a Union, as doing so would probably result in their deportation...

So at best, it's a Catch-22.

pedro durruti
05-04-2007, 09:10 PM
I know, that's why they should fight for their citizenship.

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 09:14 PM
Why would a Union fight to allow more people into the Job Market? It defeats the whole ****ing purpose, which is collective bargining and JOB PROTECTION!!!

pedro durruti
05-04-2007, 09:16 PM
I just think they should take an internationalist approach.

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 09:18 PM
Well start a Union for it then, cause I don't think any current one would ever even consider it...

pedro durruti
05-04-2007, 09:19 PM
Why not?

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 09:20 PM
Have you payed attention to anything I said?

pedro durruti
05-04-2007, 09:31 PM
I guess not.. No matter what, jobs are lost. Illegals steal jobs because they lower production costs, while legals absorb them because they raise production costs.

Der Übermensch
05-04-2007, 09:37 PM
But legal immigrants have to compete on a more level playing field, so are less of a threat.

Der Übermensch
05-05-2007, 01:18 AM
The Wobblies are a joke now... A relic of the early 20th century. I believe there are less than 2000 members left in the whole world...
They are politcally irrelevant.

Reaganista
05-05-2007, 01:20 AM
all unions are politically irrelevant

but i was referring to the 200,000 member IWW

you know from before the palmer raids

back when there was a labor movement

Der Übermensch
05-05-2007, 01:22 AM
Illegal immigration wasn't a political issue then...

Reaganista
05-05-2007, 01:27 AM
/boggle

illegal immigration has been an issue for over 100 years

Der Übermensch
05-05-2007, 01:28 AM
Sure, there were illegal imigrants, but it wasn't at any great volume. 100 years ago, there were almost no limits on immigration (unless you were "Yellow"). Most people then came as legal immigrants cause it was so easy.
