what are some good beginner basses that you would recommend. My budget is about $300. I was thinking an OLP MM2 or some kind of squier jazz. I play indie, southern rock and metalish stuff.

Definitely the OLP.

OLP >>>>> Squier

Whenever I try OLPs, I am amazed that they play, sound, and look as good as they do for the price they are. The best beginner bass, in my opinion.

What kind of indie are you into?

Also, southern rock as in ETID/Maylene and the Sons of Disaster? Or like...Lynard Skynard?

BTW, Camels rule. Turkish Royals are absolutely delicious.

Yep, for a beginner bass, the OLP will be a good choice. Plus, you'll have room to upgrade later on if you really want to.
