Basics

When I first heard these monitors, I was blown away by the power that these little 6.5" drivers could push. They were very open, with a crisp high-end, excellent transient response and incredible low-end reproduction.

Upon receiving my System 2.1 (2 SAT 6.5s, 1 SUB 12), I took some time to look over the construction of the enclosures. The main monitors were made of MDF, with a hardwood bottom. The mid-freq. driver was made of a metallic substance, while the tweeter was neodymium. The sub was of the same construction.

Sound

The system came out of the box preset for a +4 system, so no tweeking was needed. I plugged the system into my board (Sony RMX-100R), and ran some test tones (1k, 10k, white and pink noise, band sweep). They sounded incredible, so I loaded a session (rock) and took a listen. Cymbals were clear, guitar were smooth and ballsy, bass was pushing. I also loaded an orchestral session of Habitat. All the nuances, the chair creaks, page turns were crystal clear.

I encountered the 1st problem about 3 weeks after purchase. I was wondering why on a colleague's system, the highs one one side where non-present, while they screamed on the other side. A tweeter had blown on one of my monitors. This was the 1st of MANY times the tweeter goes. The change is gradual, so you don't see it coming. I also noticed, about 2 months after purchase, the mid driver on one side was distorting.

My conclusion on this set of monitors is: Incredible sound, incredible looks, but BS skimped on quality.
