Just re-introducing myself to the old timers, and of course the noobs.
Name: Nate
School: 3rd Year - San Diego State University
Major (if you're in college): Political Science (International Security and Conflict Resolution Minor)
Future aspirations: Not totally sure yet. Government work sounds interesting but I don't know if I want to relocate and get that deep into politics. If I do, then I want to eventually rule the world MUHAHAHAHA! On the other hand, I'll likely graduate in 2009 and get out of the Marines the same year and I would have no problem sitting around all day playing guitar and drinking. In that case I'd probably make my living as a member of some punk-type band. As long as it played gigs that offered some form of payment, I'd be happy. Then there's always the corporate world. We'll see.
Favorite Music: Punk/Pop-punk, alternative, some emo and hardcore. Favorite bands are 1) blink-182 (I grew up in so-cal and I will listen to everything from buddah to enema of the state until I die) 2)Bad Religion, 3)Rise Against, 4)AFI (prior to 2006), 5)Flogging Molly. Outside of that whole genre I also listen to a little RHCP, Incubus, and Rage.
Interests: Dark beer, pale ales, malt liquor, 40's, tall cans, GUITAR, my special edition Fender Tornado, REAL moshpits (ie: not hardcore dancing), the Kappa Sigma fraternity, throwing insane parties with my bros on a daily basis, going to shows, rad sorority chicks, being from Riverside County (the 951/909), drinking, So-Co and Captain Morgan, BASEBALL, The ANGELS (who are nowhere near the city of Los Angeles and why would they want to be anyway), whatever team beats the Yankees and A's, being loud and obnoxious at all times, breaking stuff, shows, the Vans Warped Tour, my family and friends from back home, politics, arguing, video games, computer games, SOUTH PARK, the Planet Earth d0cumentary series, Tivo, myspace/facebook, youtube (especially "unforgivable", "charlie the unicorn", and many others), random stuff I've done in the Marines, more drinking, being Irish and German, all the stuff I just said and whatever I forgot and managing to maintain a 3.5+ GPA at the same time.
Anything else you want to know?

It's actually a separate program that you can major in as well. It's pretty new and was started like 7 or 8 years ago. It combines a lot of disciplines like poli sci, economics, the sciences, pshycology, etc. If you major in it, there's 3 specializations 1)Conflict and Conflict Resolution, 2) Global Systems (which I might decide to double major in), and 3)Environment and Security. You can kinda guess what each of them focuses on as far as coursework from their names.
Anyway, for a major or minor you are required to study abroad and a major also requires an internship. Basically the whole discipline is centered a lot around "globalization" and basically every major international issue you can think of.
A lot of people who graduate with this get into the CIA, State Dept, etc. from what I hear. I'm taking 1 class in the discipline right now and the prof is actually the department head. It's really one of the most interesting areas of study of come across in all my years of schooling.

Really depends what you're getting into. Economics and history probably have more broad applications, but politics is useful for certain fields.

Well English Unis don't do the major/minor thing, so mine's a straight split between Philosophy and Politics, but both are reasonably good subjects to graduate with. Essentially, philosophy is critical thinking and essay writing, so you can apply to a huge range of non-specific 9-5's when looking for work, but nothing specific.

Depends on what side of town you're on. But yeah, that stereotype certainly has some truth to it. Bakersfield isn't predominately white trash, but sure as hell has more than its share.

It is quite the working class area, though I was referring to the swastika tattoo wearing, racial slur spouting, anti-anything that isn't white segment of the population, which we certainly have quite a few of.
