I've been listening to ''The Art of Drowning'' recently, awesome album. Discuss them here.

Also, ''Love Like Winter'' is suprisingly good.

Old stuff is great. A few mediocre songs but overall really good.

Newest cd is terrible.

I'm a big fan of everything that came before Sing the Sorrow, which is moderately tolerable I guess.

Decemberunderground is almost as much of as joke as the new "Blaqk Audio" project, or whatever it's called.

04-26-2007, 03:44 PM
I think Decemberunderground was okay, it's just so different compared to the older AFI. Not terrible in my opinion. I like the All Hallows EP, I could listen to "The Boy Who Destroyed the World" all day, seriously.

Damn, I totally forgot about that EP and song. It was probably my favourite at one point in time.

AFI is tolerable, though I don't have much pre-StS stuff. Blaqk Audio is terrible.

It filters out all-caps, this is the best I could do.

AFI are one of my favourite bands. I prefer the new material over the old stuff but I suppose I would. Sing The Sorrow is by far their most accomplished effort, but Decemberunderground is a great album too.

Blaqk Audio is terrible.
It's hard to judge based on one song, surely?

I decided to listen to Decemberunderground since it's been a while, the intro song makes me laugh ^_^

I can almost say Very Proud Of Ya is my favorite album.

They're my favourite but I do enjoy the others.

The EPs are excellent IMO.

I've always had a thing for these guys and the Ataris though.

lunchforthesky
04-26-2007, 07:07 PM
I always like the Ataris but they didnt become an annoying TRL mainstay like AFI.

I dont like how nine out of ten AFI songs have a whoa oh oh in them somewhere.

Ganondorf
04-27-2007, 08:18 AM
Ok, Black Sails.... is awesome, I have a question about the track listing though.

On mine, track 9 is ''Weathered Tome'' (2:13), while track 10 is ''The Last Kiss'' (3:02), but I've ehard they're suppsoed to be the other way round or something.....?

The Devil and God is my favourite Brand New album so i was perfectly happy with them only playing songs from it.

It doesn't suprise me that a lot of people didnt like them, cause well its Give It A Name so i dont expect people with good taste :p

NFG were great, im seeing them on Wednesday too.

Ganondorf
04-30-2007, 03:15 PM
Yeah the whole set was new stuff when i saw them, but I didn't mind because I like the new stuff. Would've been nice to see a couple of older songs, especially Seventy Times 7 and Okay I Believe You.....

Ganondorf
04-30-2007, 03:16 PM
I think part of the reason why Brand New weren't so popular was because the whole day was full of upbeat bands, whereas Brand New's new album is anything but upbeat.

Who were all the guys who played in the Welcome to Bangkok finale? One of them was Kevin Devine yeah?

lunchforthesky
04-30-2007, 03:50 PM
Yeah Kevin Devine was one and then **** knows with the rest.

I Didn't recognise them from other bands.

Ah ok then. What was the song New Found Glory played leading into My Friends Over You, I assume it was some kind of cover?

Also did you see Senses Fail get bottled with ketchup?!

And Kids in Glass Houses covering Refused - New Noise?

Ganondorf

Nope it was the intro from Catalyst. For some reason they put a hardcore song at the start of that record and they always play it live.

i thought people who like AFI´s old stuff, all started to hate them once they were on MTV and Davey Havok turned into a women. well least thats how it was for me

I like the old cds that everyone mentioned, art of drowning was sick, and the song 6-8 had the best ´´woahs´´ in it.

Answer That and Stay Fashionable for the win. Great CD, even better title ^^

I used to love this band. Answer That... is my favourite and one of my very favourite albums of all time. Your Name Here is a sick song.

Art Of Drowning is also great, very intense sound.

I lost interest after STS. I would have loved to have seen them some stage up until around Art Of Drowning era, so much live energy from the videos I've seen.

I just went last monday to see these guys at V-fest in vancouver, and I must say that they are gods. they definately have a presence when that have a live show, and put ALOT of effort into what they do. A band who has been around for a while tends to not play there old stuff, and AFI doesnt really play there old stuff, but they played alot of there old stuff at the festival and it was a good surprise. I just wish they would tour vancouver alot more instead of once every 5 years.

I'm backing the "older stuff" side here.

As far as I'm concerned it's not even the same band pre-STS/post-STS I mean.

I saw them in '03 I think and they still hardly played any ATASF-SYMAOYE era songs(I think maybe 2 or 3 songs) . It was disappointing, seeing as they had never toured here before that.

albert_bass

Ok I'll tell you the ultimate truth.

Afi pre-Black sails is cool, fast, angry and definately good old-school-ish hardcore music. It's too repetitive though, but that doesn't make it less cool.

Black sails and Art of Drowning are the highlights of the band. Melodic hardcore at it's finest, technical fast awesome bass lines and all in all amazing music.

Sing the sorrow was a major change again to some Rock/Post hardcore thingy. It was a risky move for them, but it went over really well. It is tyring after lots of listens unlike its two predecessors but it's a really solid album and it was great to see them changing their sound in such a good way.

Then they released Decemberunderground which mostly sucks. It has some decent songs but none of them last for long and the production is horrible at best.

So there that is the ultimate truth about AFI and remember, everything you just read is just an opinion.
