View Full Version : Beginning Work...
I'm going to begin working on the site again this week. Right now the focus is going to primarily be on profile features and increasing the interactive nature of the site.
If you have any pressing demands, please let me know before I get too engrossed in this. NOTE: Please do not list bugs here, I'll be forming a separate thread for that shortly. What I want are features/problems that you feel to be a priority. For example, if a certain feature or navigation style is bugging the hell out of you, please let me know
- Re-mod SOP please; he hasn't been able to work on the site lately, and the only mod is Zebra at this time with SOP out of the loop
- Would it be possible to update the FAQ so that it's actually up-to-date after you're all done with whatever it is you're going to be doing?
- EDIT: all the links in the bottom task bar should probably be updated
welcome back etc. etc.

We need a better way to show new Staff reviews. As it stands, two at a time isn't very useful.

Agreed. Maybe show four at a time, 2x2 ala the featured reviews? Not as big, but prominent.
SOP for mod ftw.
Also, question: Are featured reviews limited to approved and staff only? I switched over to a new account, three reviews, etc., just wanted to know if a review I wrote couldn't be featured. Not trying to say I should, but I was curious.

^ I think that's just for staff
I totally agree that more staff reviews need to be displayed, so their efforts will get more exposure. Also, is there some kind of limit in place for submitting general reviews? I've noticed a few times that some people submit several at once and knock many others off, again limiting exposure

'Tis not. I've been featured before on trust. And that Shadows Fall review was by an approved reviewer.
Kaleid
04-25-2007, 11:39 PM
Oh, ok. It was new and hadn't been featured, so Mike reviewed it the day after it came out.
The four reviews at the top of the page have no restriction other than release date... it just so happens that the veteran (approved/staff) reviewers tend to review these new releases more objectively/accurately (or so we'd like to believe, anyway) than new users, although there have been exceptions in the past.

Well, I've been bothered with the lack of sub-genre's on the review and also the band page. Not sure if that's a big issue.

Take into consideration all genres on the pie graph. I don't care if it's the core 5 and then an "Other" cateogry or if every single obscure subgenre % is listed but we need to expand that misrepresenting feature of the site.

I think it is a glitch as he has been modded in the forums. Or something like that, I'm just guessing really.
First priority though has to be fixing up user profiles so that clicking one of the links under the search bar doesn't insert /user/ in the URL. It is quite annoying trying to go from a user profile to the forums and clicking the link multiple times only to find the URL is something like http://www.sputnikmusic.com/user/forums/forums/forums/forums/forums
And it will probably only take 5 minutes to fix.

* Add 2007 to timeline
* Admit more subgeneres which are user-oriented, but don't really affect the current genres (that is allow to write a subgenre for aband, although it fits in a more general genre, really).
* login button ._.

I was going to suggest taking out the timeline, but ok.
-Have a scroll type of button for the listening parties on the main page?
-Fix the fact when you sort by "Favorite bands," "My Reviews," "My Discussions" it then does not sort by the column you wanted, therefore only making it possible to see one page of each of those. (like if you click "My Reviews" and then click the next page button it resets)
-Oh and when you click a soundoff to view in context with other soundoffs, have it so that it directs it to that page, not to the main review of that album page.
Could you add 2007 to the charts please? I'm sure 2006 was added before the end of the year was out.
- Would it be possible to update the FAQ so that it's actually up-to-date after you're all done with whatever it is you're going to be doing?
And the staff page.

Just a side-effect of being supered.
The only real request I can think of is to post the interview I did a while back. I can e-mail you it again if needs be. And masked links in news articles would be a big improvement. They'd need to be approved of course considering Chad is still alive somehow.

We should just close off all Metallica and Green Day albums from ever being reviewed again. Let's be serious now.

I think there should be a limit on reviews for an album (you can only get some many different opinions), or more of an effort by Mods to delete old+bad reviews for albums that already have 9 reviews.

I think you should figure out how to get SOP's modding powers back and add another moderator to the system while you're at it.
That would help me out at least.

no limits on album reviews! user rights!
also, as much as i like the layout, i don't like that all the "Welcome!" stuff removed. it's less invitng to new users, and makes me feel detached from the site.
and where the bloody hell do we submit albums? is that little "add" button on the user review bar the only one? tbh i hope new users can find it better than i did, becuase i was about to cry.
edit: good job on focusing on interactive content, though. smart man.

well if you go to the band page there's the "add a review" link but its a bit small. i would assume that most new users would look on the band page to submit a band review so it's probably fine how it is.

Honestly I don't give a **** about anything new, I just want the character problem fixed and have it made so a user doesn't need to write a review in order to edit the albums they've submitted.

Is it possible to set up album images so that multiple images can be uploaded for albums that have more than one cover (i.e. Korn's Issues)? That'd be cool if it there was something set up so you can see all the cover art for a particular album, like an arrow that goes to the next image, or something.
Also, this:
Also, all album images should be 150x150.
Having album lengths in the info section on a review page would be cool too. It could be put under the tracklisting.
Album info should also be able to be edited by anyone who is a registered user. There's a lot of stuff that would be cool to fix, like track listings with mispellings, incorrect labeling, dashes instead of track numbers, etc. and it'd be less of a chore for the mods to have to go fix all that stuff whenever someone notices it and cares enough to ask for it to be fixed.
And lastly, censor "imo". It's stupid, annoying, and redundant when people say it. The community will be a better place without it.
EDIT: One more thing, increase the character limit for album titles.

It'd be more of a chore since it all has to be moderated anyway.
