Any fans? I'm a huge fan, a fairly recent convert. He's my favourite rock pianist.

Years ago, my only taste of Ben Folds was his solo "Rockin' the Suburbs", which annoyed me greatly, so I was sceptical when people tried to tell me how great he was. I eventually bought Ben Folds Five's self-title debut album, and was immediately converted. I now have that one, Whatever and Ever Amen, and Ben Folds' solo album Songs for Silverman. I prefer Folds' work with the band over his solo work, but I'm a fan of both.

So... any other fans?

Most of his albums are pretty solid. I used to be a bigger fan than I am now, though. WEAEA is probably my favorite album of theirs.

And this belongs more in Pop Music than in the Other instrument forum.

WEAEA is grouse. I love One Angry Dwarf... amazing song.

I considered that, but I thought some of keyboardists would be more likely to discuss Ben Folds' prowess as a pianist. Not as though Other Instruments forum is clogged up with threads anyway.

I have also been a recent BF convert in the last year. He inspired me to have another go at relearning the piano. Although I am no way near his level, its something to shoot for. When I first heard "Landed" I was hooked and sought out his live album and other stuff. "One Angry Dwarf" is great, and I also love "Philosophy" & "Not The Same". His arrangement of the Flaming Lips ,"She Don't Use Jelly",on the "Sessions at West 54th" DVD is fantastic.

True.

The self-titled is good, don't get me wrong, but inconsistent. I mean, it has "Julianne" on it, so...

And I really liked his solo stuff, though Songs for Silverman is extremely depressing. Reinhold Messner is probably my least favorite out of all their full-length studio albums. It's really hit/miss if you ask me.

Ben Folds is one of my favorite musicians. He just rocks.

The self-titled is awesome. I love "Julianne." >.< Rockin' the Suburbs is probably my number two favorite. I agree that Reinhold Messner is pretty grim. It basically puts me to sleep, though "Army" is good. Messner is the only Ben Folds album that I am not in love with.

Songs for Silverman is pretty depressing, too, but I think it is stronger than Reinhold Messner.

I actually really like SfS. It is definitely not my favorite of his albums, but I like it.
Now supersunnyspeedgraphic, the LP, that was a grim album. Some good songs, but overall not very good.
