Now i know they haven't made a good album in five years but seriously you cannot argue with a band that has made Losing Streak, Hello Rockview and Borders and Boundaries.

Such fun albums, i've given them a bit of revival lately cause they are a great summer band.

Favourite Songs.
Al's War
Mr Chevy Celebrity
Johnny Quest
Automatic
9th At Pine
Help Save the Youth of America
and of cause All My Best Friends are Metalheads although i've played it to death.

hi im the mx ska whore, and frankly, i dont like LTJ.

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 04:19 PM
Maybe cause LTJ arent even close to ska?

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 04:25 PM
yes they are.

im sorry to inform you but the 3rd wave is pop punk with horns...

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 04:26 PM
Surely to be ska they have to retain elements of the first and second waves.

Bits of Losing Streak do but most of the time they don't even play on the off beats.

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 04:33 PM
LTJ is yer average 3rd wave ska band.

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 04:35 PM
You didnt answer my point.

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 04:37 PM
Third wave is Sublime, Slackers maybe RX Bandits who actually suscribe to the ska sound but move it in new directions.

Less Than Jake is just pop punk with horns.

Is Kayo Dot's latest ska cause it has horns?

Or is Happy Hollow by Cursive Ska?

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 05:28 PM
an upbeat pop punk band with horns is ska according to the scene. i dont study up on my music history, im a promoter, i go with what the scene says. and my scene senses are telling me that LTJ is a ska band.

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 05:32 PM
Do your scene senses tell you Dashboard Confessional are an emo band, cause its basically the same thing.

B
04-21-2007, 06:20 PM
ltj isnt ska lol

theyre pop punk with horns so basically pop punk

yellowcard arent classical because they have a violinist

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 06:22 PM
Correct!

04-21-2007, 06:27 PM
LTJ does hae some Ska influences, but they've decreased over the years.

They're an alright band, some really good songs mixed in with a load of average ones.

B

this

and since ska influences =/= ska

yeah

lunchforthesky
04-21-2007, 06:40 PM
exactly Thursday were influenced by Saetia and you can hear bits of them on Waiting but it doesnt make them an emo band by any stretch of the imagination.

nobodyblossomsforever
04-21-2007, 07:15 PM
I consider LTJ occasional ska. Like I consider my friends occasional drinkers. Just because they have some shots once and a while doesn't make them drunks.

Of course you gice probably consider me a dumbass.

B
04-21-2007, 07:22 PM
those situations really arent comparable tbqh

they arent ocassionally ska, they just have horns.

nobodyblossomsforever
04-21-2007, 07:25 PM
Some of their songs sound ska to me, some don't. Bleh

Lots of people are so meticulous with the rules of music. If there's some certain beat that is thrown off or a certain instrument inserted, people start arguing over what kind of band they are and that they suck because they are this certain genre or whatever. I think it's stupid to care about. They aren't that great anyway.

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 08:51 PM
ltj are a shitty ska band..

get over it.

B
04-21-2007, 09:26 PM
um no, they arent ska

being influenced by ska does not in any way shape or form make them ska

if you want to believe otherwise go ahead, but you'd be wrong.

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 09:37 PM
then why are they on the SUMMER OF SKA TOUR.

B
04-21-2007, 09:42 PM
because whoever booked bands is ignorant of music genres

thats like asking why shitty pop punk bands get called emo by the media every day

it doesnt make it true

nobodyblossomsforever
04-21-2007, 09:51 PM
They do sound ska tbh. Not as ska as most bands. (i sound retarded ;D)

B
04-21-2007, 09:53 PM
thats because they have horns

if you took out the horns they wouldnt sound ska at all

which is why they arent ska

and the new stuff hardly has any horn lines anyways from what ive heard

but i dont know firsthand because i really dont care to listen to it

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 10:01 PM
B shut up k.

I personally dont like LTJ but in todays public they would be conciderd a ska band. I personally think most 3rdwave is average and sounds the same, pop punk with horns, but you know what its allllllll classed under ska.

nobodyblossomsforever
04-21-2007, 10:05 PM
They're a band that wants to be ska, and are close, but are missing some key elements. Anyway who gives a damn tbqh. Go argue about what's ska and what's not in the Ska thread in the Punk Forum. >_> It's really not that big of a deal. We are all equally stupid because we post on a interweb forum :p

B
04-21-2007, 10:06 PM
BUT ITS NOT 3rd WAVE SKA

like lunch already said third wave ska is stuff like sublime

just because the public believes something doesnt make it true

stop being an ignorant tool

if you werent cute id kill you

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 10:07 PM
sublime is dub/ska.
the slackers is in the 3rdwave era making second wave music.

B
04-21-2007, 10:11 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska#Third_wave_ska

most notably

During the rise of ska punk, some third wave ska bands continued to play in the 1960s ska style, such as Hepcat, Skavoovie and the Epitones, and The Slackers.

so yeah w/e

doesnt mean ltj is ska though, as i see no mention of them whatsoever in the third wave ska section.

edit:nevermind it does :(

it just says theyre on a third wave ska label, with which i still strongly disagree with

I dont even care about this band anymore, so I cant get hyped.

SSTB was good, and thats that.

Jessizzle
04-21-2007, 10:13 PM
1960s syle meaning it was TWO TONE they were playing
a ska band is firstly classed by its time period
we are in the 3rd wave, entering the 4th.
the slackers came out in the 3rd wave time period playing two tone music just like you cited.

Mass media tends to mislabel everything.

& Wikipedia is the most inaccurate place to get information ever, or one of. Not saying the write up on 3rd Wave is inaccurate, but some of the info is unnecessary and you don't really learn anything from it.

yes

and yeah sometimes because anyone can edit it

occassionally it comes in handy

unlike now

nobodyblossomsforever
04-21-2007, 10:26 PM
Exactly, I could edit it right now and say that 3rd Wave Ska is the next cutting-edge breakfast cereal in America.

People would start thinking that Catch 22 is under the genre Fruit Loops.

B
04-21-2007, 10:27 PM

You guys do seriously need to stop trying to out prove one another, its stupid that the only time a thread in Pop Punk is answered it's either

A. Mindless spamming
B. Dissing a band/giving a lousy response to a band
C. Arguing over who has more knowledge about music

You all suck at life. :p

In a lot of cases yes, because eventually the catchiness gets boring and annoying. But if something gives me a cool feeling inside, I will probably like it right off the bat. I'm not that picky when it comes to music. I'm not limited to any certain genre.

B
04-21-2007, 10:57 PM
