I love KJ Sawka!
This dude lives around me. C89.5 is our local techno station. I love how he was their first live guest artist too...

those poor cymbals..... Tightened up so tight.

They cymbals are most likely cracked, bent, and tightened to heck on purpose, as it recreates the very trashy, non-overpowering sound (with quick decay) of techno cymbals and electonica sound bytes.

That's what I was thinking, because he's obviously very good at what he does, I'm sure it's exactly the sound he's going for. In the first vid, you can see he has a splash on top of his crash, which probably kills all the decay.

Yup, and it contributes to that tasty, trashy sizzle!

I think this guy has the right approach.
If you're going to get into DnB , it makes sense to jump in with both feet.
Having those smaller sized drums and quick decay cymbals, plays a real factor in pulling it off. It's like totatlly different sounding on a jungle kit, than when you try to play that on a more regular rock oriented kit. I much prefered the sound of what he just played over say, Lang playing jungle on his big Sonor kit.
It's like bop drumming in that respect, the right gear can really contibute to the playing and the overall sound.
