That's an awesome kit man! I really dig it man. Those K hats must be secks...

I'd like to try that kit. Must have an unbelievably warm tone. I'd buy some new heads, and, just being me, a K Dark Thin Crash, 17".

That's strangely attractive... very nice! How do the older K models treat you?

Such a tiny kit... That kick must have some serious punch eh?

Thanks for all the kind words! :thumb:
The K Hats are amazingly warm and versatile, they're great in jazz (what i play mainly), but when i play in the rock band i'm in, i use my Z series dyno beat on the bottom, whichs makes for a heavier, more high pitched sound. I much prefer just the K's though. Very much Secks indeed, combatwombat!
Chemist: The tone is very warm, and i am looking to buy a 17" K Dark Thin Coincidentally. And a couple Bosphorus rides :p
Inkstar: The K's are great, no complaints from me or anyone else who has played or heard them, i highly recommend any K's.
Zildjian: The kick is very punchy indeed especially if i use an EMAD on it, but even without that it is. I have it tuned high for jazz at the moment though.
Thanks again all!

i LOVE your vintage ride, and hats. i have never heard a 400 before, but i am sure it sounds great.
but no crash?
or does that A ride have a lot of wash?
i just would not be able to handle such a limited kit. i myself, need variety. but i know you are more than likely, way content with the setup. so whatever works for you!

That looks like such a nice set to play man. I'm so jealous!
Do you like that 20" ride or are you waiting to change it?
Wow, nice kit. Love the colour and the lugs look good.
Why do you have the ride taped?

While I am in no way an advocate of tape, your kit eminates such vintage class that I shan't comment on it's use. There isn't anything like an old vintage set. The only thing that would make me even happier is to see some calf-skin heads on it!

Thanks man :) The 400 is ok, i'd still prefer something lighter though. The A ride is very washy, so sometimes when the venue i'm playing at is small or echoes a bit i'll tape it. Both of those rides are nice when crashed, but i would like a 17" crash at some point.
Well, with the limited setup i guess it just comes down to personal preference and what styles of music are played.

Thank you all for the kind comments - they are much appreciated! I think i got everyone in there :thumb: I'm glad you all like my kit! 18x8 eh? Yeah that'd be pretty chill :)

Fair enough, thanks for the love though. I love my kick, maybe you'll change your mind when you hear it.

Thanks bro! The ride is second hand, but new to me.

I know i've commented this before but,I've always loved that bass size man its so cool. Also if I remember corectly they made a 4" deep one did they not?

Do you like that 20" ride or are you waiting to change it?
Thanks man! And from what i remember, i like your kit, so thats an awesome compliment. I dont mind the 20", but it's really just to vary the sounds in my drumming until i get something better (Bosphorus hopefully!).
Wow, nice kit. Love the colour and the lugs look good.
Why do you have the ride taped?
Thankyou! The lugs are nice i agree. I tape the ride because i dislike the overtones it produces in some sound settings, like an echoey room and such like.
Sweet man, that's gonne be the type of set up I'll be rocking soon. Nice!
mmm mmm mmm good!
Thanks gice! Much e-love! :thumb:

Wow, nice wording! Great post. Many thanks! :chug:
I've been meaning to buy some Aquarian Modern or American Vintage heads soon, so you may be happy sometime when i get them :thumb:
The tape is only temporary mind, my room is very echoey and the overtones really drown out alot of everything else.
I know i've commented this before but,I've always loved that bass size man its so cool. Also if I remember corectly they made a 4" deep one did they not?
Thanks, i really dig it, it sounds great and it really easy to transport, i'm not sure about the 4" depth, that might have been Taye and their little gig kit. But i may be wrong
Thankyou all again for such nice words! I love you all! lol :thumb:

No problem man, Cheers for the compliment aswell :)
I'm going to post a few snaps of my kit today it reminds me of yours a lot.
Anyway, Good luck picking out a cymbal. I really think a nice hand-hammered ride would suit that kit like a dream.
And if you're looking into turkish cymbals, chances are when you find a store that stocks bosphorus cymbals they might stock istanbul also, check em out, they churn out some good stuff.

I'm looking forward to seeing your kit again. :thumb:
I was thinking about Istanbul too, its just whether they're stocked around here is all, i'd like to play on them first, and with online it's pretty impossible. I'm probably going to be asking about Bosphorus at Damo's shop because i'm sure that they're the only dealers around my way.
But yeah, i really want myself a nice turkish hand hammered cymbal, so either of the companies would be good i'd think.

Yeah from what i've heard and seen i'd very much like one. But they're also extremely expensive over here (Australia) so yeah, cymbals are probably my first priority.

Beautiful kit gn! I love the finish and the overall understated nature of it. I bet it sounds great, would you happen to have any audio? Also, just out of curiosity, where did you obtain that kit? The sizes are very different from most kits out there, and it seems like a kit that would be tough to find.

04-17-2007, 11:55 AM
Thanks man. I have some audio, but it isn't great. It's a solo, i'm not really great at playing by myself, i prefer band situations. I should have some audio of me and a band soon though, i have a couple jazz gigs next month and i'm looking to record them. But if you wanna check out my crappy solo playing goto: www.myspace.com/ryanbrewermusic
The kit is a Premier shellpack you can buy, i'm the 3rd owner of my kit and it was made like 5-6 years ago i think, so its pretty well played-in. But you can buy the same kit from Premier, it's an Artist series shellpack & hardware, Artist Birch Heritage.
Hope that helps :thumb:

premier drums are usually pretty shittyly constructed, some completely fall apart
after a while. but that is by far one of the nicest ive seen.

WTF?! What the hell are you on about!? I have a Premier 54 series kit and the thing is SOLID! Mind you I should probably wait a bit longer to see if it falls apart as it was made very recently, back in 1966.
My drumkit is as old as my mother, yet shows less signs of ageing.

Well mine are pretty great and they've been played by two other people and used very well in those times, and all the other Premier's i've played are damn solid. My teacher has a vintage Premier kit (it's at least 40 years old, probably the same line as yours BB) and i love the sound of it, the kick is soo nice (18x14), even though it's edges are pretty screwed.

Yeah i'm cool with that, i have a track of me drumming on it already at school that i was gonna put up there, but it'd be cool to see someone else's ideas on it. But i am definately going to record a better version of it, that was recorded when i practically just started playing so yeah.
