I was just surfing DW and I found the new 8000 series pedals, and a special edition 24k gold plated pedal.

http://www.dwdrums.com/pedals/8000Pedals.htm

http://www.dwdrums.com/pedals/anniversary.htm

I'm now questioning my decision on buying my 5000's

Oh and by the way, I remember the talk of DW making drumsticks awhile back with the 3 in a sleeve idea. Heres a link if anyone wants it.

http://www.3drumsticks.com/

Sorry if this is old news. If I'm a little late on this please delete the thread.

I don't like the looks of the gold pedal at all, but then again I hate gold in general. If it was titanium or some kind of shiny silver, I'd be all over it.

Didn't one of the companies make a titanium limited edition pedal before?

And the 3Drumsticks look promising, I'm definitely going to give them a try when MF stocks them.

Come on. They made the whole pedal out of gold and left the chain black? The whole point of the gold pedal is obviously purely for looks, and then they screw it up by doing that. Seriously, they couldn't even make it a polished silver color or something? I realize they want the thing to be workable, but who's honestly going to pay thousands of dollars for a gold plated bass pedal and then actually use it?

As you just saw in my thread, i'm a proud 5k owner...

If i were you...i would wait till the 8k's come out and see what they're like...chances are they'll be super expensive. I'd say go for 5k's.

That being said...they should have came out with a new colour scheme.

Aye, I remember seeing the silver IC in Guitar Center a while back. A quick google search revealed that there was a Titanium 9000:

Wow. Those I would definitely buy if I had rediculous amounts of money to spend on trivial things. Then again I love silver and shiny things.

$500.

I was thinking it would be in the thousands considering how DW's hardware is already incredibly expensive to begin with.

24k gold is different to 24k gold plated.

The pedal is gold PLATED. And as it is 24k it is quite "soft". This means that it will come off with general wear and once it gets knocked a little, it wont look/be worth half the price...

And as for the 8000... WTF is the difference. Pedals get so good, and from then on they are just a little lighter, different colours, different shapes, that's all... And when you buy a new one you have to adjust to it all over again. I say get 5000, and if you are a professional drummer, touring the world making millions - then get the 8000, or in a couple of years, the 15000 or maybe even the 72000. Until then, don't bother.

Thats my 1p/2c

honestly...even if you are touring and making millions, the 5k is the way to go...I've never felt a better pedal.

Or an IC, that'll survive a nuclear war, and the new ones have bearings to match the DW's.

Wait, so are these 8k's better than the 9's? Or are they between the 5's and 9's?

I'm pretty sure they're in between the 5k's and the 9k's. If you look at these, they don't have the floating cams that the 9k's have, but have more features than the 5k. I'd love to give these pedals a shot someday, that's for sure.

Yeah i cant work out the point of another line of pedals. 5000s are affordable professional lifelong pedals, 9000's have interchangable cams and a few extra features. What can you really put in between? It's like Zildjian ZHT.

Why the hell does DW need another pedal line.

Pearl does fine with 2 lines
Tama does fine with 2 lines
but DW needs 5? Come on start making affordable drums again

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with 5K and 9K. It might be a nice pedal but it isn't needed. Any extra features could just be added to an "updated 5/9K" version right? :)

Yeah, you would think with 5 pedal lines suitable to almost all financial situations, that they could do the same with drums.

I guess I can't be mad about my 5000 decision until I've felt the 8000's. Also, I agree with etp2, they should have got a new colour scheme. I was thinking they would have it the same way as the 5000's, but instead of red, they would have a darker, navyish blue, like the blue Rydeen's.

5 is too much.
I'd say 3 is good.
7k,5k,and 9k.
Or actually.
Just remove the 9k.

Thats true. Peart uses a Gold Plated 9000, and it broke in Phoenix, AZ because the plating worn the pedal down.

The 8000 is in between the 9000 and the 5000 (I think) in terms of production.

So

PDP, 4000, 7000, 5000, 8000, PDP BOA, 9000. Is it just me or could this be brought down from 7 to maybe 4?

PDP, BOA, 8000, 9000.

MeaninglessPhoto
04-15-2007, 02:26 PM
IMO it could be better off taking out PDP all together and just make the 4000s the default pedal for PDP kits.

So it would be like BOA 4000 5000 8000. Take out the 9000 series because its overpriced anyway and its basically the same thing as the 8000 line just with a different look and 5000 characteristics.

Gibraltar pedals are all I try to use. Intruders are very stable. and durable.

I've never found a DW pedal that does it for me. Plus the prices are outlandishly high for a pedal.

I'm really not a fan of that gold one....

The 8k's look nice, whats the difference between that and the 5k's? I need a double kit atm, and am thinking the Eliminator ($600 aus) as apposed to the 5k's $850+....

Thanks

As a fellow Aussie, I advise you to buy from the US on either a shop or ebay. Much cheaper. I'm looking for a double kick now as well.

I just recently switcjed from Gibraltar avengers to DW 5000. OMG its a huge difference, heel up is much more faster and powerful, heel down is easier to play. I set it up right out of the box, and i was great. I want to change he settings to see what else I can to but there is so much you can do. I love em!!

Just because you guys don't like the 9k doesn't mean other people don't. It sells fairly well, and they make a killing off of it.

Because every materialistic drummer goes out and buys it with all the money they have so they can look "cool"

That's right... They aren't buying the pedal to upgrade from their 5k, they are buying it so they can show off to everyone that they have the ***NEW*** DW pedal.

DrummingBen
04-16-2007, 02:20 AM
Since I don't want to start another thread, what are peoples preferences for a double. Pearl 2002C or DW 5000. DW will probably cost more.

Thanks
