there are still people today who think that a controller is better than mouse & keyboard for playing a first person shooter :X

vote in poll plz

Controller feels more organic (particularly when triggers are the firing mechanism). Then again I don't know sh1t about gaming.

Mouse and Keyboard are more accurate.
Although the Wiimote might be right up there.

Wiimote and the touch screen on the DS are far FAR better than a mouse and keyboard.

Anyone who chooses controller is retarded and doesn't deserve whatever console they're playing on.

its like talking to a brickwall olol. a fps will never feel right on a controller. mouse and keyboard all the way. gta3 was way better on mouse and keys. but thats not a fps.

i actually break down inside when i think of some cad attempting quake3 using a controller. or any other fps for that matter.

It's true that a mouse and keyboard are technically better for controlling FPS's. However, a controller is perfectly acceptable and I don't shrug off good games just because another control mechanic is better. I'd rather be sitting around some TVs playing a FPS with friends than playing at my computer.

Mr. Ron

I like K&M better because your hands are independent of each other, making it easier to control two actions at once. With a controller, your hands are in the same place trying to manipulate the same controller but with different buttons, which makes it harder to control something.

I play Halo for PC with a 360 controller. That's mainly so I don't suck it up when I play on Xboxes though. And I play pretty well against m/k users.

Halo was the first FPS where the controller was a viable option.

Still nothing compared to the keyboard and mouse.

I'd say the heirarchy is mouse and keyboard, wiimote then anything else, but I'm sure one can get comfortable with the wiimote with practice, as did most people here with a mouse.

there is far more motor and somatosensory neuron innervation in the wrist and fingers than there are in the arm and trunk

thus, there is far more chunks of cortex dedicated to those parts than in the arm and trunk

thus, using the wrist and fingers gives you much greater accuracy than arm and trunk

this is a very easy to understand concept

Let's Chop Cats!
04-15-2007, 11:54 AM
Its not hard to only use your wrist when using the wiimote. Only an idiot actually stands in front of his TV holding it out in front of them. Also the wiimote is far more natural and accurate than 2 joysticks.

of course

but would you rather use a mouse to navigate through windows or a wiimote

Meh, I hate sitting at the computer to play video games. I like being at the couch with a controller. Also, I hate using the keyboard to move. w;a;s;d suck and it's awkward. Holding a controller ftw.

meh, i found COD3 on the 360 a lot of fun, probably more so than on pc

but - theres no debate over which is the more efficient. keyboard and mouse is just so much more flexible (i base this pretty much solely on counter strike, the only FPS worthy of its own religion)

CoD3 on the 360 was definitely a million times better.

Right, but there are some advantages given by the wiimote that weigh in against the loss of precision. For example, since the wiimote functions in three dimensions, the distance you create between the wiimote and the sensor allows you to establish much easier control over sensitivity of the cursor. I can extend my arm to reduce the distance changes while moving my wrists, and I can pull it back to increase them at any given time. This introduces an interesting gameplay dynamic.

yes but that isn't very useful tbh to fps games

I voted for controller because they were losing and I vote for the underdog.

I havent played a FPS in a long time on the PC, but it just feels so much more fluid with mouse and keyboard, especially aiming.

controllers are only fun when its like grand theft auto and you press a button which automatically 'locks on' otherwise its dumb.

the COD3 system on the 360 works REALLY well...

i think u can turn the option on or off but when your looking at someone and pres the button to bring up the gun sights, it follows them to a degree while the sights are being raised. it doesnt track them around after but as the sights go up it follows them...something my housemate doesnt quite understand and wonders why im constantly snapping off shots with rifles and killing people much faster than his machine gun

with a bit of practise though, most controller setups are prtty efficient. just not as much as keyboard and mouse. i mean comeone, it was hardly an effort to play halo was it

m&k. IMO it simply offers superior control ... period.

I've once put it to the test back in the days when i still played TFC. I tried playing it with a controller and practiced for about a month and a half. At the, although i could hold my own against most players, i was still fodder for the good players, while normally i could compete against the best the community had to offer.

GreyHam

well using a controller on a pc is definately pants, as the games are designed with the keyboard and mouse in mind, in contrast to FPS on consoles which are more lenient with aiming

i played a lot of UT 2004 and halo1/2 around the same time, and as everyone is saying, there's no comparison.

keyboard mouse feels like a much more natural extension of my own body then a controller, even though I got pretty good at both.

I think the only people who dont like ketboard and mouse are the ones that have not tried it extensively enough to understand how better it is. I remember my friend trying to say he liked the goldeneye controls way better then quake 3 arena which is just ridiculous
